The ATCC Summer Intern Program provides students with an opportunity to contribute as Associate Biologist interns to cutting-edge ATCC projects that support scientific and break-through research, improving the health of global populations. You will support biological manufacturing, the production of biological cultures and derivative products, and contribute to data collection and recording.

Associate Biologist Intern - ATCC BioProduction Department, MSAT:

    This role supports manufacturing process improvement, batch record reviews and record analysis.
  • Batch Record Review:
    • Thoroughly review executed batch records for accuracy and compliance with good documentation practices (GDPs) and regulations.
    • Identify discrepancies, mistakes, and deviations from expected results.
    • Ensure critical process parameters (CPPs) and critical quality attributes (CQAs) meet specifications.
  • Manufacturing Process Improvement:
    • Collaborate with teams to optimize bioprocess parameters.
      Contribute to process enhancements that enhance efficiency, yield, and product quality.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Record Analysis and Documentation:
    • Analyze scientific and technical data within batch records.
      Ensure proper documentation of equipment calibrations, room status, and environmental monitoring.
    • Assist in investigations related to batch failures or deviations.
  • The ideal candidate should have knowledge of basic laboratory skills.
  • Attention to Detail: Precise review of batch records and identification of anomalies.
  • Process Optimization: Understanding of bioprocess parameters and willingness to contribute to improvements.
  • Data Interpretation: Ability to analyze and draw conclusions from experimental data.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with relevant regulations and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaboration: Effective communication and teamwork within cross-functional groups.
Responsibilities
  • Manufacturing Operations: Manufacturing of biological products by following standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and other controlled documents. Maintain laboratory safety, operations, equipment, and supplies.
  • Documentation: Maintain production batch records in compliance with good laboratory practices. Collect, analyze, and report data, ensuring meticulous documentation.
  • Continuous Learning and Problem-Solving: Master aseptic technique, gain experience with various cell lines and organisms, and tackle routine challenges in alignment with organizational policies.
Qualifications

Program Qualifications:

  • Must currently be enrolled as rising 3rd or 4th year undergraduate, or within 12 months of graduating from a BS or MS academic degree program at an accredited college or university, majoring in in biology, cell biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or a related science.
  • Must be able to complete a 10-week consecutive full-time internship between June 3 and August 9, 2024.
  • Must meet one of the Deemed Export Control Rules; a citizen or national of the United States; person lawfully admitted for permanent residence (a holder of a Form I-551 or "green card"); person admitted as a refugee; person granted asylum; or temporary resident granted amnesty under the 1986 legalization program.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience in an undergraduate biological science lab, following safety procedures and properly handling biologicals and/or chemicals.
  • Hands on laboratory experience and aseptic technique.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to follow laboratory safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow strict protocols and corporate policies and procedures.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, computer skills, and the ability to critically analyze data sets.
