POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the management of machinists and fabrication staff, associated processes, and equipment used to develop prototype and production runs of in house designed systems and components. This position serves as a hands-on manager engaged in a quick turn prototype collaborative environment responsible for ensuring the achievement of team production goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Oversees day-to-day operations of onsite machine shop consisting of CNC cutting, CNC milling, CNC turning, 3D printing, sheet metal forming, welding, finishing and custom fabrication and mechanical assembly.

* Organizes shop activities and work orders into schedules detailing daily priorities and forecasting plans promoting shop efficiency and transparency. Develops metrics for assessing the performance of realizing the schedules and plans.

* Reviews work-orders, blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine raw material requirements needed to produce parts. Oversees shop raw material procurement and inventory ensuring adequate stock levels are on hand to support tasking.

* Provides written reporting to management on shop production status against due dates.

* Responsible for overseeing daily maintenance and external preventative maintenance of all Machine Shop equipment. Makes recommendations to management for replacement of shop equipment and tooling.

* Engages with company personnel and departments with product advancement or development ensuring the components are manufacturable in a time and cost effective manner.

* Establishes and monitors staff performance and development goals, assigns accountabilities, sets objectives, establishes priorities, conducts annual performance appraisals, and manages performance issues. Promotes a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality

* Establishes and maintains a program to train and improve technical skills of shop staff promoting career development while simultaneously reducing single points of failure in shop processes/operations.

* Ensures team members work in a safe environment and comply with all company-established safety policies and procedures.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

* Associate's degree in a related field or certification from an accredited technical training institute.

* Six years of part design, fabrication and assembly experience.

* Three years of supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Strong understanding of tooling concepts and machining processes.

* Solid leadership skills with demonstrated knowledge and understanding of staff management practices and processes and the ability to establish accountabilities and expectations and manage performance to achieve results

* Attention to detail with a demonstrated commitment to excellence and performance improvement and the drive to deliver quality and value-added results and outcomes.

* A professional presence and strong interpersonal skills for interacting in a courteous, timely, and diplomatic manner with all levels of employees as well as other parties/stakeholders involved with the organization.

* Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills with the ability to translate information into a meaningful, understandable context and message, regardless of the format (e.g., documents, public speaking situations, presentations, etc.)

* Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and often changing priorities and issues of varying complexity, while meeting time-sensitive deadlines and deliverables.

* Knowledge of business operations, including effective budget development and management processes, as well as the ability to translate strategic thinking into action plans and related outcomes

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit and stand for long periods. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

* Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is performed in a traditional production environment and/or light-manufacturing facility.
