General Summary of Position Provides educational leadership for professional nursing practice in alignment with the mission, vision, values and goals of the Division of Nursing/MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Magnet designation. Exemplifies and promotes excellence in education, practice, and research through leadership and mentorship of nursing staff and through collaborative multidisciplinary relationships within the medical center, as well as throughout local, regional and national arenas. Uses adult learning principles and instructional strategies to assess, design, implement and evaluate continuing nursing education programs that enhance and promote clinical competency and standards of care. Promotes, disseminates and integrates evidence-based practice, performance improvement, and nursing research into clinical practice. Supports and facilitates certification of clinical nurses. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards. About MedStar Georgetown's Surgical Transplant ICU (S4-4): The
specialized 24-bed critical care unit is staffed by highly dedicated and
experienced nurses and intensivists, complemented by skilled respiratory
therapists, and other healthcare professionals trained to care for acutely ill
surgical patients. Surgical specialties include transplant (liver, kidney,
pancreas, and small bowel), thoracic surgery, plastic-reconstructive surgeries,
vascular surgery, abdominal and ear, nose and throat surgery. The STICU is
equipped to provide patients with state-of-the-art therapies at the bedside
(continuous renal replacement), advanced hemodynamic monitoring, complex
mechanical ventilation modes and medication infusions. The synergy between our
professional expertise and our patient care model allows for clinical outcomes and
results which are among the best in the nation. Unit leadership supports
participation in shared governance, research, and continuing education as well
as national specialty certification. The STICU is the proud recipient of the
Gold Level Beacon Award for Nursing Excellence from the American Association of
Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
