Job Description

INTRODUCTION

Under the supervision of the Director of the Post-Graduate Behavioral Health Fellowship, the Post Graduate Behavioral Health Fellowship Program Clinical Supervisor provides clinical supervision and mentorship to post-graduate social workers in the fellowship. The fellowship is geared at training clinicians in the Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) model of care. The Clinical Supervisor plays an integral role in the fellow's professional development and ability to provide high quality care in the IBH model. This position is responsible for providing clinical supervision, documentation review, treatment planning, teaching, consultations, didactic delivery, fellow evaluations and mentorship. This position is a part-time opportunity. There is a full-time option with time evenly split between clinical duties as a mental health clinician and a clinical supervisor.

MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Clinical Support, Mentorship and Guidance

  • Provide clinical supervision to fellows on a weekly basis during your rotation
  • Provide on-site support with regular clinical case reviews, guidance on assessments, diagnosis and treatment planning. This includes guidance and support to the fellow around:
    • Taking clinical histories
    • Conducting psychosocial and diagnostic evaluations as appropriate
    • Providing targeted assessment and evaluation, including diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem
    • Formulating diagnostic and treatment recommendations for patients and present findings to treatment teams (i.e., physicians, social services, psychologists, and nursing staff as appropriate)
    • Developing appropriate treatment plan and short-term integrative behavioral health follow-up interventions appropriate for the diagnosis and setting
    • Providing preventive health education
    • Referrals to hospitals, specialists, or other providers when needed

  • Validate competence by observing skill performance.
  • Provide on-going constructive feedback to support the fellow's learning and professional development.
  • Serve as a primary contact and mentor for assigned post-graduate fellows during your rotation.
  • Review and co-sign fellows' progress notes within a timely manner according to agency policy.

Educational Support

  • Evaluate the student's identified learning objectives.
  • Assess fellow's individual learning needs.
  • Coordinate clinical experiences to meet curriculum requirements and individual learning needs.
  • Assist the student with applying theory to practice.
  • Integrate the fellow into the role of the Mental Health Clinician.
  • Assist the fellow to develop and improve performance.
  • Contribute to the fellow's evaluations.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to the fellow.
  • Collaborate with other preceptors to ensure a comprehensive educational experience.

Health outcomes

  • Actively participates in the BH Fellowship including didactic sessions, mentored sessions, preceptor sessions, skills workshops, and other components of the fellowship program.
  • Provides guidance to the Fellow with performing patient care and mental health provider duties in a safe way that is compliant with policies, supports quality initiatives and procedures of Unity Health Care.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Foster collaboration and communication between fellows and other professionals within the organization
  • Collaborates with BH Fellowship leadership, BH Leadership and staff on panel and population management
  • Assist the Director of Behavioral Health Fellowship Program in the implementation of program policies and procedures, including program standards, curriculum, and evaluation procedures.

Other duties

  • Serves on committee(s) as requested by Director of BH Fellowship, Senior BH Director, Deputy CMO, CIMO or CMO (e.g., Behavioral Health Integration, Behavioral Health QI, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must hold an active and unrestricted Licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW) in the District of Columbia (or able to obtain reciprocity in D.C.)
  • LPC, LMFT, PsyD will be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a clinical or educational setting.
  • Experience with Integrated Behavioral Health Model of care
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience (preferred).

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Competent in basic psychotherapy skills including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, active listening
  • Able to utilize evidence-based interventions to improve mental health of clients.
  • Knowledge about special populations (HIV+, homeless, medically indigent, etc.) and diversity/ cultural issues in treatment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with medical health providers in a patient-centered medical home model.
  • Ability to use Electronic Health Record software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health Fellowship.

GUIDELINES

The position abides by all rules and regulations set forth by applicable licensing and regulatory bodies, as well as UHC policies and procedures.

PERSONAL CONTACTS

The position requires contact with staff at all levels throughout the organization. There are also external organizational relationships that may be a part of the work of this individual.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as books and paper is required.
  • Refer to the attached ADA physical Efforts Checklist.

RISKS

The position involves everyday risk and discomfort, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings, training rooms, and other UHC health Care Sites. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. All medical services shall be provided according to medically accepted community standards of care. The employee shall provide evidence of a recent (within the past twelve (12) months) health assessment that includes a PPD and/or chest x-ray results.
