Job Description

SUMMARY

Report to the Program Manager and work in support of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Research and Engineering Directorate and its divisions and or branches. The primary support activity for DHA R&E is in Silver Spring, Maryland with some support activity at DHA R&E remote satellite locations. Your roll is primarily concerned with providing Linux System administration for all servers, network equipment, operating systems, and applications on the network.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, configure, and maintain an open-source Content Management System (e.g. Drupal) and its supporting components in a Linux cloud environment
  • Perform server patching to ensure compliance with applicable Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in the production environment to minimize impact to mission critical systems.
  • Coordinate with the development and infrastructure operations teams on O&M and Project related activities
  • Assist with the development, management, and subsequent enhancements to the automation engine and scripts associated with the code deployment process.
  • Support integration with other technologies such as Akamai Content Delivery Network (CDN) and cloud search solutions (e.g. Google Search Appliance, Solr, Elastic Search)
  • Write shell scripts and Ansible playbooks to automate routine processes.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure issues.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among the team.
  • Provide on call support for production issues.
  • Experience in working remote and meeting deadlines.
  • Work within established quality procedures, standards, policies, and specifications
  • Review customer requirements and ensure they are being met.
  • Work in an IPT structure and be well versed in virtual meetings and working groups.
  • Ensure the quality is consistent and meets both external and internal requirements.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Limited primarily to supervision of IT/IM staff supporting DHA in daily tasks and performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with Operating Systems such as: Microsoft Windows 7 and 10, Apple OSX, Apple iOS, Google Android
  • Unix Environment Certification
  • Experience with Databases such as: Oracle, Microsoft SQL
  • Experience with computer Hardware such as: Dell, Microsoft, HP
  • DOD 8570.01-M IAT level II certification required such as: Security + CE or CCNA Security as well as appropriate 8570.001 M Computing Environment certification such as SAP, SPSS, MCSE (SharePoint), Microsoft Specialist (Win10, SQL)
  • Bachelor's Degree plus five (5) years of relative experience or ten (10) years direct relevant experience is acceptable in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Preferred degree areas include Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level (U.S. Citizenship required).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Unix Environment certification preferred such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator, Certified Unix System Administrator or Red Hat Certified Engineer.
  • ITIL V3
  • Programming skills: C++, HTML, XML, JAVA, JavaScript, SWIFT, Objective C
  • Forensics: GCFE, GIAC, GFCA, Encase, SANS Institute Forensic Toolkit
  • VTC: H.320, H.323, Polycom MCU, Polycom, Tandberg, Cisco Telepresence
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with the customer, peers, employees, and management team.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to coordinate several activities at once, quickly analyzes and resolves specific problems, and cope with deadlines effectively.
  • Detailed understanding of all levels of IT support and development.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is primarily performed in a professional office setting, including the normal office equipment (e.g., computer, fax machines, copier) and with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of seeing up close and sitting for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for manipulation of keyboard and mouse.
