Job Description
The Senior Program Manager leads the planning and execution of complex programs. This role manages a cross-functional program team to achieve program outcomes aligned with defined timelines. The Senior Program Manager manages financial planning for programs, manages communications with internal and external stakeholders, and trains less experienced team members.

Project Planning and Coordination:Partner with the Director of Product Development and Engineering to orchestrate project planning across the St. Jude Cloud initiative. This pivotal role entails setting strategic timelines for major releases, synchronizing efforts among various teams, and ensuring cohesive progress towards our milestones.

Strategic Planning and Reporting:Conducting strategic planning efforts to ensure the St. Jude Cloud program's continued growth and innovation. Prepares and occasionally presents executive-level reports and presentations to keep hospital leadership informed of our progress with existing initiatives.

Operational Excellence:Manage and execute the intricacies of daily operations in an excellent manner, including processing data access requests, resolving support tickets, managing our commitments and progress updates on grants, assisting in the development of documentation for the project in the areas this position oversees, and efficient use of the project's budget.

Blue Sky Initiative Proposals:Craft and articulate compelling proposals for visionary "blue sky" initiatives that aim to expand the project's scope and impact. Additionally, be responsible for creating engaging scientific communications tailored to a broad range of audiences, ensuring clear conveyance of concepts and fostering stakeholder engagement and support. Note that prior expertise or expertise in scientific topics specifically is not required, but interest in learning them to effectively communicate in this space is required.

Event Strategy and Management:Spearhead the conceptualization and execution of high-impact events for the St. Jude Cloud project, including summits on bioinformatics workflow languages, tool development in Rust, global pediatric cancer data sharing, and the data science community at St. Jude.

Project Communication and Educational Material:Work closely with product managers to effectively communicate new features and data releases to the St. Jude Cloud user community. This involves crafting clear messages, coordinating announcement schedules, and engaging with users to ensure they are informed and can take full advantage of the project's latest advancements. Further, co-develop educational materials for the project with product managers including blog posts, educational videos, and help guides.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead one or more programs, typically consisting of multiple projects.
  • Participate in all aspects of programs, including planning, budgeting, staffing, and performance.
  • Define program objectives. Promote the program internally and externally and track program utilization.
  • Establish processes, policies to support program goals.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness by collecting and analyzing data in support of key performance metrics.
  • Ensure activities are in compliance with institutional policies and any relevant external regulations.
  • Develop governance mechanisms, resource allocation and contingency planning.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to achieve program outcomes.
  • Provide reports and updates to senior management or other stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelors degree required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Experience: 5+ progressive years of experience in a business-facing program management role.
  • Significant experience in risk management, issue resolution, resource management, and financial tracking of multiple/ complex programs.
  • Experience leading large/complex/ multiple programs with a focus on internal and external customer needs.
  • Proven experience in operational management, and budget planning & management through diverse program teams.
  • Proven experience facilitating and presenting updates to leadership team.
  • Experience in organizational capability development within program management.
  • People Managers only: Experience managing a program management team.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $94,640 - $169,520 per year for the role of Program Manager / Senior Program Manager - St. Jude Cloud.
