Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an IaaS System Administrator to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Kearneysville, WV (hybrid work schedule; must be local to office). The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton's Infrastructure Managed Service (IMS) Program, for the Unites States Coast Guard (USCG). This initiative is modernizing and consolidating the engineering and operational environment under a managed service to better support the services provided to the USCG. As part of the IMS program, the System Administrator will be responsible for providing guidance across the Technical Services team, including requirements definition, design, implementation, and testing.

Day to Day Work Responsibilities may include:

    Provision, configure, and maintain virtualized infrastructure components such as virtual machines, networks, and storage within an IaaS environment.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize resource utilization to ensure high availability and reliability.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect infrastructure components and data, including access controls, firewalls, and encryption.
  • Collaborate with other teams to design and implement scalable and resilient infrastructure solutions.
  • Automate routine tasks and processes using scripting languages and configuration management tools.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime.
  • Perform regular backups and implement disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and business continuity.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to end-users, including troubleshooting and resolving system-related issues.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and best practices for knowledge sharing and future reference.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to cloud computing and infrastructure management.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 2 years experience or Master's degree with 0 years experience or HS Diploma/equivalent and 6 years experience
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret security clearance
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or OpenStack.
  • Proficiency in administering Linux and Windows-based systems.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and services (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and platforms, especially IaaS providers such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Strong scripting skills with languages like Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
  • Understanding of security best practices and compliance requirements within a cloud environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to support core business hours and on-call support during non-core business hours.
  • Minimum of 1 of the below certications is required:
    • CompTia Security+
    • CISSP
    • CISM
    • CEH
  • Must have the ability to obtain DoD 8570 compliance with Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level II or higher certification upon hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are a plus.

Target Salary Range
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
