About the Job:

Sandy Spring Bank is currently recruiting for a Collateral Management Team Leader. The successful candidate will manage the Collateral Team responsible for overall management of collateral related to Commercial, Residential and Consumer loans. The team is responsible for perfecting, securing and release various types of collateral including but not limited to Deeds of Trust, UCC and vehicle and equipment collateral. Management of these instruments including efficient tracking in a variety of bank systems, including but not limited to FIS and nCino. Maintaining physical and electronic records of these instruments is also included. Under minimal supervision and following established procedures, oversees employees and job functions within the Collateral Management area. Provides leadership and guidance in interpretation of loan policies and procedures to staff as well as other departments within the Loan Division. This includes assisting in the development of loan policies and procedures to staff and other departments within the Loan Administration. This position is cross-trained in all functions of Collateral Management, and its systems and tasks and is expected to assist in meeting daily production objectives on a daily basis.

MAJOR JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Collateral management: Direct oversight and processing collateral boarding and life of loan servicing for all forms of collateral. Responsible for managing a staff and ensuring SLA's and KPI's are met.
  • Collateral Perfection: Direct oversight and processing for perfecting collateral for closed loans. This includes but is not limited to UCC and vehicle titles. Is a subject matter expert is software used to manage these instrument. Ex: iLien, Simplifile and various state and county websites.
  • Release Management: Direct oversight and processing releases of collateral. Actively monitors reports to identify paid in full loans needing a collateral release. Follows policy for exception processing.
  • Regulatory Impacts: Serves as first line of defense and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a variety of reulations as they relate to the process. Specifically Respa
  • Audits: Assists Management with internal and external audits. Responsible for remediating findings and process improvement
  • Document Exceptions: Participates in the process of clearing Document Exceptions established by Post Closing teams. When receiving documentation related to Collateral Document Exceptions the team will update systems and secured these document in a timely manner.
  • Complies with all aspects of Performance Management Program including the delivery of monthly coaching and annual performance appraisals. Assists with development and recommendation of new/enhanced job descriptions.
  • Supervises the workflow within established policies and procedures for productivity, accuracy and efficiency. Maintaining current and new procedures. Assists Collateral Manager with the strategic development and implementation of improved workflow. Works effectively with other unit team leaders to foster cooperation and support. Supports organizational goals and objectives.
  • Supervises the production of payoff quotes/releases and ensures all requests are being done according to departmental SLA guidelines. This is including monitoring those systems utilized to perform those tasks (Simplifile, Ilien, FIS)
  • Answers questions from clients (internal/external) regarding Collateral Management related functions. Inquires may involve researching various sources of information and documentation.

Required Skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Work requires a professional level of knowledge relating to Collateral Management tasks with a minimum of 5 to 7 years of related work experience. Familiarity with applicable regulations is expected.
  • General technical knowledge of personal computer applications required, including the ability to develop reports and applications using various operating systems, word, spreadsheets and databases.
  • A varied level of problem solving skills are required in order to find solutions to problems that are technically complex and require collection, interpretation, and analysis of data from diverse sources.
  • Position requires regular internal and external contacts to resolve problems and answer complex questions regarding policy and procedures which requires sensible judgment and good interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively manage and instruct others is necessary.
  • Work is under minimal supervision where the work requires independent judgment in the interpretation of existing policies and procedures and the selection of alternative procedures and work routines.

SPECIFIC PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work requires reasonable mobility in and around the work area. Ability to use standard computer and phone systems is required

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment where there is almost no discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, or other disagreeable elements.

Work includes little or no potential exposure to hazardous conditions.

Must be able to travel to remote company and/or client locations.
