Job Summary:

Mary Washington Hospital, located in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is seeking a full-time staff perfusionist to join our cardiac surgery team. Program performs approximately 250 cardiac surgery procedures and 130 transcatheter valve procedures annually.

Fredericksburg is located approximately 50 miles north of Richmond, Virginia and 50 miles south of Washington, DC. The beautiful Shenandoah and Blue Ridge Mountains are an hour drive west of Fredericksburg. Skiing, hiking, and the beach are all within easy driving distance. Fredericksburg is centrally located for the candidate looking for access to both metropolitan or countryside living.

The Cardiovascular Perfusionist conducts extracorporeal circulation and ensures the safe management of physiologic functions during any medical procedure in which it is necessary to artificially support or temporarily replace a patient's circulatory or respiratory functions, such as in open heart surgery or other heart procedures. The incumbent in this position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of MWHC Health System and must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, associates and the public.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Cardiovascular team during medical procedures by Selecting appropriate equipment and techniques to be used during procedures, in consultation with the physician
  • Administering blood products, medications and controlling the temperature of patients during surgery.
  • Monitoring equipment during surgical procedures, making adjustments as needed to ensure proper blood pressure and flow during the surgery
  • Purchasing equipment and supplies as necessary
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Graduate of an accredited perfusion program required
  • ABCP Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) required OR ABCP Certification or Board Eligible, required
  • Ability to work effectively in emergency situations and under stress
  • Ability to work cooperatively / collaboratively as part of a team, developing productive working relationships with diverse groups of people
