JOB SUMMARY:
This is manual work in the City's Municipal Parking Garages. An employee in this class, under direct supervision of the Superintendent of Public Parking, patrols all of the garages in the City providing security presence during the week-end night hours. This position is considered "essential personnel", and will be required to be able to respond to emergencies as needed. This position is primarily evenings and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Picks up City truck from assigned parking deck and begins patrol of all the City decks. Drives the truck throughout the decks, checking in every hour, by hand-held radio, with the City Switchboard. Employee gets out of truck and walks parts of the decks, such as stairwells and looks for people loitering about. Employee has authority to ask the people to leave or call the police if needed.
  • Provides assistance to customers who have parked in the deck, such as helping them get out of deck or giving directions. Employee also provides minor repair to money machines and other equipment.
  • The incumbent is required on a regular basis to operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • At times, employee will be required to place "No Parking" signs on surrounding streets in accordance with the Parking Department.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
    And
  • (3) Three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
  • Valid Maryland Driver's License in good standing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
