The Manager of Environmental Services will provide leadership, direction, and management oversight for continuous improvement of the standard Environmental Services (EVS) operating model within the organization. The position is accountable for the cleaning services in all areas within Mary's Center facilities.

The Manager of Environmental Services (EVS) plans, coaches, coordinates and evaluates the activities of the environmental services (EVS) team leads and EVS workers. The Manager of Environmental Services works collaboratively with various cross functional teams throughout the organization to understand the key workstreams that impact operations. This position is very visible and has constant contact with the organization's managerial staff, frontline employees, patients, guests and outside vendors and contractors.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Director of Environmental Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise EVS team leads and workers to include oversight for selection, interviewing and hiring; training new and existing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Manage various EVS Department reports for quality and compliance purposes.
  • Manages resources for the EVS department and provides recommendations for staffing levels, products, and equipment.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of buildings and clinics and make appropriate recommendations to ensure acceptable appearance of the facility.
  • Evaluate standards of performance and work procedures and make necessary changes to ensure a consistent and acceptable level of service.
  • Works in conjunction with Infection Control Team to ensure adequate disinfection practices are implemented and enforced.
  • Provide training and continuing education programs to EVS team and ensure these programs are documented for each employee attending.
  • Conduct staff meetings and meet with members of other departments to coordinate Environmental Services activities throughout the organization.
  • Performs monthly inventory report of facilities supplies and coordinates with the Director of EVS procurement and distribution of supplies.
  • Represent Environmental Services at Mary's Center committees and attend meetings as assigned.
  • Investigates concerns and/or suggestions from employees, participants, and the compliance; responds promptly and appropriately.
  • Supervises and/or performs on-call emergency services when needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -

  • Minimum five (5) years progressively responsible relevant experience with at least one (1) year supervisory or managerial experience in a health care facility.
  • Five (5) years of managerial experience in a health care facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of waste management and infection control in hospital environment.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Ability to collaborate with representatives from all areas of the organization.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database computer applications.
  • Ability to ensure a high level of customer service for patients, employees, and visitors.

Language: Ability to communicate effectively in English & Spanish is required.

Work Schedule - Must have availability Monday-Saturday.

Licenses & Certifications - Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) preferred.

Driving Requirements - A valid and current driver's license from Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia. Must be 21 years of age to drive a Mary's Center Fleet vehicle and must be 25 years of age to drive a Mary's Center vehicle rated for 15 or more passengers.

Physical Demands - Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to fifty (50) pounds.

Work Environment - Mostly in a typical outpatient office/clinic setting with a quiet to moderate noise level. Exposed to a combination of office and warehouse environments. Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, and noise. May be exposed to potentially hazardous blood-borne/respiratory pathogens and bodily fluids which require the practice of Universal Precaution procedures.
