Purpose of Position
The College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for an Interim Associate Dean. The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and works closely with the dean, fellow associate deans, the college budget officer, office staff, center and school directors, department chairs, program heads and directors, and other university administrators.

This search is open to internal candidates only. This is a twelve-month, tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor rank.
Primary Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities of the person hired for this position will be determined collaboratively with the dean and our current associate deans and may include (but are not limited to):
  • Supporting college initiatives to promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, including coordinating selection of faculty for award and recognition programs and professional development programs
  • Collaborating with faculty, directors, chairs, college administrative staff, graduate school administrative staff, and other administrative staff both within and outside Academic Affairs on tasks and projects determined in consultation with the dean
  • Leading efforts for developing, collecting, analyzing, and evaluating information required for college and university reports and providing reports when requested
  • Chairing college wide-committees
  • Providing leadership for college diversity, inclusive excellence, and equity initiatives
  • Supporting college and campus accreditation efforts as needed
  • Coordinating ad hoc projects (e.g. convocations, chair/director development, program review, EAB training, etc.)
  • Supporting career development efforts for our college's students
  • Assisting in the interpretation of college and university policies and regulations and serving as an advisor to the dean
  • Promoting the college through attendance at events
  • Working collaboratively to help lead the college communication and marketing strategies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Requirements include:
  • Tenure in one of the college's academic departments
  • Ability to be successful in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives/projects to successful completion
  • Willingness and desire to learn new skills to support the work of the college
  • An understanding of the university's strategic plan and ability to work across departments, school, programs, and centers to facilitate alignment and success
  • A passion for supporting faculty, staff, and student growth and excellence
  • Experience in evidence-based decision making
  • Strong communication and writing skills and the ability to work effectively with a range of internal and external constituencies
  • Strong computer skills and ideally a background in working with at least some aspects of SAP
