Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting for a Procedure Writer in Richland, WA.

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA, and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. The Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Drafts/revises operating, laboratory, maintenance and administrative procedures, descriptive manuals, data sheets, sketches, and other documents to enable engineers, operators, technicians, and other personnel to safely manage, operate, and repair process systems and equipment. Conducts system walkdowns to ensure procedures match field configurations and hazards are adequately addressed. Provides technical and process guidance in the preparation and development of new or revised procedures for systems within the functional areas assigned. Ensures all required process steps are completed before procedures are published.

Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, researches, organizes, writes, edits, index, revises, and produces technical data for documentation of greater scope and advanced technical complexity.
  • Develops source material, consults engineering, operations, maintenance, and technical staff, and coordinates the preparation of required materials.
  • May participate in the establishment of procedure style guidelines and standards.
  • Obtains data from review of documentation, drawings, schematics and reports, consultation with technical staff members and by hands-on experience.
  • Ensures procedures are developed, reviewed, approved, and distributed to appropriate personnel in accordance with the established approval process cycle.
  • Ensures that technical and engineering documents such as vendor manuals, diagrams, charts, blueprints, and standards are reviewed and accurately integrated into procedures.
  • Conducts physical walk down of the system or facility location when appropriate.
  • Routes and tracks procedures through all stages of the process cycle utilizing automated database and document tracking and retrieval systems. Expedites critical path procedures.
  • Assembles procedure developmental information for each new procedure into the electronic workflow including checklists, review comments, approvals, associated vendor manuals and other material as required.
  • Maintains procedure change information in the electronic workflow including a change summary, review comments, approvals, checklists, and other material as required.
  • Conducts regular and periodic reviews of existing procedures according to established site guidelines, in response to organizational, technical, or administrative changes, or at management direction.
  • Performs reviews of other peer or subordinate procedure writer's output, prior to formal review process, to ensure that procedures are accurate, reflect all necessary comments and complies with the generally accepted site procedure development practices, conventions, and formats.
  • May represent the organization to internal groups and provide development specific information to requestors.
  • May provide work leadership for lower-level employees.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical Writer/Editor III (Grade 16)
    • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field and 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or related experience (e.g. technical/procedure writing operations, or E&I/mechanical maintenance)
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite
    • Knowledge of IDMS, VISIO, and WRAP workflows

  • Technical Writer/Editor Sr. (Grade 18)
    • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in related field and 8 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or related experience (e.g. technical/procedure writing operations, or E&I/mechanical maintenance)
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite
    • Knowledge of IDMS, VISIO, and WRAP workflows.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years' experience at a DOE, Commercial Nuclear, or similar facility.
  • Knowledge of Hanford Site software typically used for procedure development, such as:
    • IDMS
    • Microsoft VISIO
    • LPS, PPS, or MSAPS
    • SmartPlant Foundation
  • Procedure Professionals Association (PPA) Procedure Writer Certification

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Grade 16: $86,138 - $108,513

Grade 18: $101,525 - $128,075

The grade level offered to the selected candidate will be based on business needs and the candidate's education, training, and/or relevant experience.

In accordance with the Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc (Navarro) salary determination process, Navarro takes into consideration the level of assigned job duties and responsibilities and the candidate's education, training, and/or experience relative to internal peers and the external labor market. A candidate's salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
