Job Description
The Summer Conference Assistant position starts on May 5, 2024, and goes on until August 4, 2024. The time commitment will vary weekly; however, on average the Summer CA works about 30 hours per week over the summer term. The compensation package includes a housing scholarship, stipend, and a meal plan. Although the compensation does include residential space, University Housing reserves the right to assign roommates to staff based on the occupancy needs of University Housing.

During summer months Residence Halls may be reserved for internal and external groups interested in utilizing the campus facilities. Conference Staff members support these conferences with customer service, assignment processing, an on-call duty rotation, facilities management, laundry, administrative tasks, desk shifts, and other duties as determined to support summer operations of University Housing. Conference Staff will also play a vital role in preparing Housing for the fall semester and will be expected to assist with light housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

Summer CAs will not be allowed to take classes or have outside work during the summer session unless approved by the Assistant Director for University Housing. Compensation will change depending on the number of hours the CA is taking classes or working an off-campus role.
Primary Responsibilities

Conference Staff members provide support to these conferences with customer service, assignment processing, an on-call duty rotation, facilities management, laundry, administrative tasks, desk tasks and other duties as determined to support summer operations of University Housing. Conference Staff will also play a vital role in preparing Housing for the fall semester and will be expected to assist with light housekeeping other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, a Conference staff member is regularly required to:
* Effectively communicate and give directions
* Read documents such as policy and procedure manuals
* Prepare reports and correspondences
* Use a Master key system
* Respond to duty situations according to University protocol
* Work without continuous supervision
* Meet deadlines set by the coordinator
* Respond immediately to issues and concerns of conferences
* Attend all staff trainings (dates will be given upon hire (March /April 2024)
* Attend weekly staff meetings
* Perform check-ins and check-outs for summer conference groups, summer housing students an fall residents
* Prepare, distribute and wash linen packets
* Provide customer service and care by working a minimum of 10-hours at the Norse Commons Service Desk
* Complete Room inventories and inspections
* Serve night and weekend duty on a rotating system
* Provide housekeeping services when needed
* Move laundry from various buildings
Summer Conference Staff must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, able to move through three story building via stairs, able to climb and descend stairs while carrying supplies, materials and/or furniture as needed.

Qualifications

Previous experience working and/or living in residential housing at NKU preferred. Must be currently enrolled NKU student registered for classes for fall term 2024. Staff members may register for only one course during the first five-week session and one course during the second five-week session at the approval of the Coordinator for Residential Services, prior to the start of the Summer CA Appointment Agreement. The other option is that staff members may register for one course during the eight-week session but will not be permitted to take an intercession course and/or a course that meets on Monday or Thursday nights. Conference Staff members must give the coordinator a copy of his/her class schedule.
A 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA for undergraduate candidates; 3.5 cumulative and semester GPA for graduate candidates. Must be able to live in university-assigned on-campus housing and be able to perform physical tasks. It is mandatory that you attend weekly staff meetings and work some nights and weekends. Conference Staff cannot teach or have an internship during their employment and must have permission from the Conference Coordinator to work an outside job. Outside jobs must be limited to 10 hours a week or less and may be considered for approval but it is not guaranteed.
