Job Description

RK&K is searching for an energetic and enthusiastic survey professional to lead and grow our surveying services. You will be responsible for developing and leading our survey department and the delivery of survey services including topographic mapping, boundary surveys and other related services for transportation, environmental, utility, and institution/developer projects. The survey manager will be responsible for management of survey contracts, tasks and projects and provide quality assurance/quality control for project deliverables. You will be responsible for scheduling, budgeting and leading field crews, survey technicians, surveyors and other team members to complete and deliver land surveys, boundary determination, computations, plat development and mapping. You will also develop and implement a strategic plan for business development, contract management, proposal preparation, staff development and department growth.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a Registered Land Surveyor with 15+ years of experience in surveying, project management, business development, and mentorship.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead all department functions, services and growth
  • Manage client contracts, tasks and completion of project deliverables
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary survey and engineering teams to ensure seamless coordination and successful project delivery
  • Manage client relationships and serve as primary point of contact for surveying services and surveying contracts
  • Implement and follow RK&K quality control standards and practices
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities including the acquisition of new clients and the expansion of services to existing clients
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules and department resources
  • Monitor industry trends, advancements and industry best practices
  • Foster a culture of team and staff development, encouraging innovation, efficiency, and professional development and licensing
  • Develop and implement strategic plans and goals for the survey department
  • Enhance a firm culture of collaboration, technical expertise, fiscal efficiency and responsiveness

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Surveying or related field
  • Registered Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Maryland, Delaware and/or Pennsylvania or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of professional land surveying experience; preferably for MDOT SHA, DelDOT, PennDOT and other local public works and public agencies.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Highly knowledgeable of land surveying practices, technology, laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Track record of delivering high-quality surveying services for transportation, utility, environmental and development projects
  • Department and contract management expertise, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, utilization, and risk management
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients and internal/external team members
  • Experience in contract management and business development
