Overview

AARP Services, Inc., founded in 1999, is a wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP. AARP Services manages the provider relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent providers as benefits to AARP's millions of members. The provider offers currently span health products, financial products, travel and leisure products, and life event services. Specific products include Medicare supplemental insurance; credit cards, auto and home, mobile home and motorcycle insurance, life insurance and annuities; member discounts on rental cars, cruises, vacation packages and lodging; special offers on technology and gifts; pharmacy services and legal services. AARP Services also engages in new product development activities for AARP and provides certain consulting services to outside companies.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on experience in Python on Databricks to quantitatively study and explore member data to track and analyze member behavior
  • Work on highly scalable ML models and algorithms in extensive data mining, Supervised Learning modeling & other domains. Familiar with Machine Modelling cycle, including various tasks, data preparation, Feature Engineering, Model selection, Validation Evaluation, Deployment, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Cloud environments, cluster optimization, and usage
  • Present results of research and/or analysis, typically using data visualization techniques, sometimes to broader internal or external audiences

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship and pursuing a degree in computer science, statistics, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, marketing, operations research, or related fields
  • Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in a graduate program
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptable to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Proficiency in Spark, Databricks, AWS, and generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, etc.
  • Technical fluency in Pyspark (preferred), Python/Pandas, and SQL
  • Must have some experience (professional or college-level) dealing with big data
  • Databicks savvy or eager to learn new technologies.
  • ML libraries like TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc
  • Communication skills - Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience building stories and narratives out of data
  • Collaborative skills - Comfort working across multiple business teams, including both technical and non-technical partners

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
