Job Description

Directs the activities of Clinical Nutrition Services and coordinates with all areas of the hospital to ensure excellence in nutritional care of patients. Coordinates quality activities and develops standards, policies and procedures for clinical nutrition care and for compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies standards. Directs nutrition research. Ensures the in-service, training and education of staff. Assists with the review and revision of patient menus.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs and manages the Clinical Nutrition Services department. Develops and submits goals and objectives for the department. Yearly develops and submits goals and objectives for the department. Submits departmental budget. Yearly submits Directors Annual Report. Coordinates department quality improvement activities. Yearly submits departmental budget. Administers departmental budget. Represents clinical nutrition and/or patient care services at institutional meetings and groups outside the hospital. Coordinates clinical nutrition services with food service department and groups outside the hospital. Coordinates dietetic internships and field experiences for students. Coordinates community nutrition education programs. Coordinates education for hospital staff related to nutrition.
  • Manages the performance of staff. Ensures job performance and provides appropriate feedback. Completes performance appraisals according to current standards. Provides work assignments and general guidance in performance of duties. Assures training of new staff. Ensures continuing education or Inservice training is conducted as appropriate. Supports development and professional growth of staff.
  • Develops standards, policies and procedures for clinical nutrition care of patients. Develops, implements and monitors standards of care and the Diet Manual. Ensures the maintenance of policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures and regulatory agencies, including regulatory and accrediting agencies and state and local health departments.
  • Directs clinical research on nutrition. Coordinates all nutrition related research activities. Participates in the development and execution of departmental and interdisciplinary research projects. Develops research protocols. Collects and analyzes research data. Participates in written presentation of findings.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for Food Services. Assists with the development, maintenance, interpretation, and/or implementation of policies and procedures. Helps to ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards. Contributes to the review and revision of patient menus. Supports quality improvement efforts. Communicates information related to patients between clinical and patient food service areas. Coordinates student training.
  • Participates in institutional and professional activities to promote the profession, the department and the organization.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:.

  • Master's degree in nutrition, dietetics or a related field required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of clinical nutrition experience that includes two (2) years of supervisory/management experience required.
  • Clinical research experience in nutrition preferred.
  • Pediatric experience required.
  • Oncology experience preferred

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • (LC: LDN-TN) License by the State of Tennessee Division of Health Related Boards as a Dietitian/Nutritionist required.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only

  • (LC: CDRADA-RD) Registered as a Dietitian/Nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics required.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $94,640 - $169,520 per year for the role of Dir-Clinical Nutrition Services.
