ChristianaCare's Gene Editing Institute (GEI) is looking for a Part-Time Laboratory Coordinator, who will be responsible for providing important support to the Institute and managing the operations of the science laboratory. The laboratory coordinator will coordinate lab use, acquire new materials, maintain equipment, and ensure all safety rules and regulations are met. Must demonstrate the ability to rapidly adapt to constantly changing research priorities.

Principal duties and responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily activities of the laboratory including lab maintenance; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed. May assist with purchasing laboratory equipment.

  • Work with scientists and Principal Investigators to determine equipment, hardware, and software needs and advise the team on equipment upgrades, replacement, and repairs.

  • Evaluate lab equipment as used on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Make sure that hoods, exhaust fans, and other safety equipment are functioning properly. Lab equipment should be evaluated at least once each year.

  • Inventory lab equipment at least once each year

  • Responsible for purchasing lab supplies or preparing ordering lists.

  • Recommend policies and procedures for lab operation. Issues include, but are not limited to: safety procedures; regular maintenance, calibration, and cleaning needs; resolving broken equipment/repairs with the technician, leadership team, and director; negotiate and maintain service agreements

  • Oversee that the lab stays safe and orderly and take prompt corrective action when unsafe conditions, practices, or equipment are reported or observed.

  • Oversee supply and equipment budget under supervision of principal investigator or business manager.

  • Managing DECODR external access accounts to ensure they comply term of user agreements.

Education and experience requirements:
  • Associate' degree in life or health sciences with 2-3 year' s research experience which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Lab management experience is preferred but not required.
