The Interior Designer/Furniture Specialist is responsible for leading space assessments, programming, furniture layouts and other key equipment coordination. The Interior Designer/Furniture Specialist will lead small projects and will be assigned to support aspects of larger projects by the Sr. Director of Architecture + Planning as required.
The Interior Designer/Furniture Specialist will work independently on small projects with the responsibility of the development of the design, budgets and construction documents. For larger projects, they will also work with consultants to develop the design and documentation. The position will work closely with the Capital Project Managers in charge of furniture procurement and project schedule as well as collaborate with Project Managers for installment and approve close-out documents.
In addition to projects this position is in charge of the creation and maintenance of Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) furniture standards. This includes healthcare (inpatient and outpatient), lab, office/administrative and other support spaces (e.g. food service, lab, etc.). The Interior Designer/Furniture Specialist will round with the Sr. Engineering Project Managers at each JHHS site to review furniture status.
The ideal candidate is proficient in delivering all aspects of projects including project initiation, design, specification, budget, identification of infrastructure items that will require modification, life safety/compliance, and closeout. Beyond the required technical skills for this position, Interior Designer/Furniture Specialist must also possess effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design or Architecture is preferred but may be waived in accordance with the job experience requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Work Experience:
* Bachelor's Degree and 4 years interior design
* Associate's Degree and 8 years interior design
* High School Diploma and 12 years interior design
*plus two (2) years of contemporary experience in the design of healthcare facilities or similar such building projects are desired.

General and design office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, phones, and presentation equipment and materials.
