Finley Asphalt & Concrete, a reputable company in Northern and Southern Virginia in business for over 50 years, is in search of a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.
Job Description
The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment.
Duties and responsibilities include:
  • Complies with state vehicle requirements by inspecting, testing and completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, replacing filters, etc.
  • Maintains vehicle/equipment functional condition by listening to operator complaints, conducting inspections, repairing major failures, repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions, replacing parts and components.
  • Inspects and maintains equipment, including checking fluids, and monitoring other mechanical systems for wear and damage.
  • Maintains clean work area and shop.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Related work experience with trench work.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of trenching and shoring standards.
  • Responsible for proper and safe operations on slopes.
  • Knowledge of weight requirements of loads.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while on duty. PPE includes; safety vest, gloves, hard hat and work boots.
  • Maintain safety as top priority in accordance with company safety rules.
  • Drug test required.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to sit for long periods of time while operating equipment.
  • Be able to climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Saturday, starting at 5:30 a.m.. This position is at least 40 hours per week with required overtime. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule.
Travel
May have to travel within 100-mile radius.
