Summary:

The Freedom Federal Credit Union Member Solutions Manager will manage, lead, and direct the overall operation of the Member Solutions Department. Plan collection strategies and continuously improve the work of an efficient, high functioning collections team. They will measure performance to ensure strategic and business goals are met.

The Member Solutions Manager complies with all federal, state, and organizational policies, procedures, and processes, including (but not limited to) the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). They maintain confidentiality of current, past, and potential members and their personal and financial information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and prioritizes collectors' activities and reviews account queues regularly to ensure delinquent accounts and negative shares are worked effectively, efficiently, and creatively, while in compliance with all applicable regulations and policies.
  • Defines operational challenges and communicates daily with staff to resolve questions, perform complex analyses and research, evaluate alternatives, and develop sound conclusions and recommendations.
  • Has overall responsibility for vehicle repossessions. Coordinates process with third parties maximizing the value of collateral disposition. Assigns accounts to outside collection agencies and manages those relationships in line with Freedom's policies and objectives. Ensures team members follow repossession policies and procedures.
  • Has overall responsibility for the handling of bankrupt accounts and negotiating with attorneys on bankruptcy and other legal issues.
  • Reviews and analyzes delinquent loan/negative share accounts for charge-off recommendation to Senior Management monthly, following policy.
  • Analyzes financial situation of delinquent borrowers and decisions payment deferment requests. Approves and restructures loans to members based on thorough analysis of ability to repay and willingness.
  • Coordinates ongoing portfolio review and analysis process and makes decisions regarding member account blocking, closures, and/or credit line adjustments.
  • Responsible for the determination and management of accounts sent to third parties (collection agencies/legal) after charge-off for recovery efforts.
  • Audit uncollectible accounts to ensure maximum efforts have been taken before assigning bad debt status to account.
  • Provides leadership to personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.
  • Assumes responsibility for supporting, demonstrating, and promoting the Credit Union service culture.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations and requirements including Fair Credit Reporting Act, Federal and State Bankruptcy codes, Repossession, Collection Laws and Garnishments.
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly reports.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Required Experience

  • Minimum of an Associate degree is required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive collections experience working with Consumer, Home Equity, and Mortgage loan collections and delinquencies; Seven (7) years preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years in a role with supervisory capacity
  • Thorough knowledge of collections, bankruptcy procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills including telephone, written, and verbal/interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required to be an effective subject matter expert in the position. In-depth dialogues, conversations, and explanations with members, direct and indirect reports, and outside vendors of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature is a normal part of the day-to-day experience. Communications can involve motivating, influencing, educating, and/or advising others on matters of significance.
