Stationary Operations Engineer

Role Overview:
The Stationary Operations Engineer is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all stationary equipment within our facility, ensuring its optimal operation and safety. This role requires an in-depth understanding of the machinery, routine check-ups, troubleshooting, and efficient repair methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance and Operation: Safely operate, maintain, and monitor boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, and other stationary equipment.
    1. Must be experienced in maintenance and repairs on Commercial-Industrial building equipment to include but not limited to: chillers =/+500 tons, boilers, pumps, control systems, air handlers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, VAV's and VFD's. Candidates must be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of Chiller Plant Operations, demonstrate the ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, and specifications, also be able to demonstrate practical knowledge of building air systems. The ability to respond to service calls of the gas-fired boilers, Chillers, AHU, fire pumps, generators, UPS, ATS, BAS, and Fire Alarm operations.
  2. Routine Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues, ensuring equipment is operating within set parameters and adhering to safety standards.
    1. Responds to service calls by determining the problem, identifying the cause, and implementing a solution to address the issues. Completing required documentation utilizing the site CMMS system.
    2. Duties involve observing and interpreting readings on gauges, meters, and charts which register various aspects of the system's operation, adjusting controls to insure the safe and efficient operation of the system and to meet the demands for the service provided, and recording logs for various aspects of the system's operation, maintaining equipment of the system in good working order. Performs all preventive maintenance work in accordance with site specific approved job plans and applicable company standards
  3. Troubleshooting: Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  4. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements. Ensure all operations are logged and documented in compliance with organizational standards.
  5. Compliance: Ensure operations adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations and standards related to stationary equipment operations.
  6. Collaboration: Coordinate with other maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to ensure seamless operation and timely resolution of issues.
    1. Relays questions, progress, information requirements, and discrepancies in system and other issues impacting the operation of the building, its equipment and the comfort of occupants. Initiates follow up action if required in a timely manner.
  7. Emergency Response: Act as a first responder during any stationary equipment emergencies, implementing safety procedures and addressing issues promptly.
  8. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest trends, equipment, and best practices in the field, attending workshops and training as necessary

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Stationary Engineer's license highly preferred
  • 10+ years facilities maintenance experience required.
  • Familiarity with the operations, maintenance, and repair of boilers, HVAC systems, refrigeration units, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation including sequence of operations, technical product literature, programming manuals and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building mechanical and electrical equipment functions and use, HVAC systems controls applications.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • US Citizen with Ability to obtain a HSPD, PSD & Secret , Highly Preferred Active Secret

Abilities:

  • Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
  • Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
