Overview

Perform and assist with the conduct of experiments in a laboratory investigating mechanisms of metastasis in childhood cancers. Work within a team that includes principal investigator, highly experienced senior scientists, post docs and graduate students. Duties will include cell culture, cloning, virus generation and cell transformation, as well as some animal work. Must have molecular biology experience. Must be able to work some evening and weekends in an on-call and as needed rotation.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Assist with conducting research studies and laboratory analysis in studies of pediatric cancer in collaboration with principal investigator and laboratory manager.
  • Process clinical research specimens received from clinical trial participants.
  • Monitors animals for tumor growth and doses experimental medications.
  • Maintains cultures of various cell lines. Performs in-vitro experiments with analyses that include ELISA, western blot, microscopy, flow cytometry and library preparation for sequencing.
  • Generates plasmids for producing lentiviruses to manipulate gene expression in cell culture (shRNA, CRISPR).
  • Produces viral preparations, transduces cell cultures, and characterizes the effects of these manipulations.
  • Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures, and prepares reports, inclusive of graphs, tables, and photographs, of the results of studies.
  • Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals with regard to a specific area of research.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 6 months to two years of laboratory research experience OR certification and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Must be able to use research methods in generating and collecting data and analyzing the data for report preparation.
