Job Description

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this job. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform work-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description. This job description is not a "contract" between the employee and the Authority. The job duties and essential functions may be changed at the discretion of the CEO/General Manager.

SUMMARY:

The Mechanic I, Process Systems installs, repairs, and tests process mechanical equipment and systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs overhaul of process equipment in order to bring equipment to standard operation.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects malfunctions to process equipment and systems.
  • Makes adjustments to equipment and components including, but not limited to: process pumps, blowers, compressors, bearings, valves, clarifiers, bar screens, grit units, centrifuges, process piping, etc.
  • Rebuilds, repairs, maintains, and installs a wide variety of process equipment and systems.
  • Tests process equipment and systems.
  • Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Communicates all process equipment modifications to the Production Controller.
  • Coordinates work with other trades.
  • Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the immediate supervisor.

Key Working Relationships: Interacts with employees in the department and throughout the Authority.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE & OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three (3) years experience with process mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Must possess and maintain current a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License.
  • Constructive participation in the Authority's Fork Lift and Overhead Crane Training Programs is required.
  • Knowledge and skill to burn, weld, braze, sweat joints, and operate a wide variety of hand powered tools and some machine tools such as, but no limited to, drill press, pedestal grinder, cut off saw, and arbor press.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical safety.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate a variety of lifting equipment (i.e. overhead cranes, come-along, portable cranes).
  • Knowledge of proper rigging procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.
