Job Description

Position Objective:

The Admissions Clerk is responsible for ensuring verification of valid insurance for patients admitted from the Emergency Department and communicating insurance updates with both PFS and Care Management. This position will also be responsible for capturing required documentation and regulatory notices at the patient bedside. Working at the direction of the Patient Access Director and/or supervisor, this position will conduct manual audits and reporting of patient registration in order to ensure and improve accuracy and compliance in data collection Position reports directly to the Director of Patient Access.

Essential Job Duties:

1) Greets patients being admitted/placed in observation by conducting personal interviews; confirming/entering demographic and insurance information; obtaining signatures on required documents.

2) Reviews admissions to ensure accuracy of coverage information, verifies benefits, and communicates late updates to Care Management and PFS staff to ensure proper authorization and UR processes are followed.

3) Updates admission-related information, including Spiritual Care preferences and Medicare compliance materials.

4) Assists in registration accuracy reporting by finding, correcting, and reporting incorrect information to the Supervisor of Patient Access for review and follow up.

5) Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Director of Patient Access.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Required Minimum Education. The minimum level of education for this position includes:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Must be able to type 50 WPM (test required)

Required Minimum Experience:

3 years Hospital or Medical Office experience related to Registration and/or Billing.

Required License/Certifications:

CHAA, required within 6 months.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Strong data analysis skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Highly detail-oriented

Epic-EMR knowledge

Knowledge of Insurance and Medical Terminology, required.

Basic LEAN understanding

Requires knowledge of State and Federal rules and regulations

Based on the essential functions, Manager will select from list provided (e.g. Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects).
