Overview

BigBear AI is actively seeking to add a Database Administrator to learn and become the Army Synchronization Tool (AST) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to our team. The position will provide a full range of AST SIPR application customer and application management support tasks. The successful candidate will have database administration and SQL expertise along with knowledge of the AST SIPR Global Force Management (GFM) sourcing and Equipment Common Operating Picture 2.0 (ECOP 2.0) applications. The desired candidate must be a self-starter, equally talented in individual and team focused, working alongside other members of the AST and larger BigBear Team.

The position is full-time (five days a week), on-site, at the BigBear facility in Crystal City, VA at the Taylor Building.


What you will do

  • Provide Army subject matter expertise and work as a liaison between various BigBear and Army functional proponents and the BigBear technical team supporting AST's IL6 instance.
  • Customer support
    • General subject matter expertise for full application functionality.
    • Specialized customer support with custom SQL queries, data management, standard and custom reports.
    • Other customer needs as required.
  • External data connection maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with new code releases and bug fixes.
  • Execute data and ETL updates.
  • Troubleshoot and remediate system issues and outages with the server team.
  • Recommend improvements and upgrades to systems based on users' needs.
  • Review application and web server logs to identify and report security-related issues in coordination with Information Assurance manager.
  • Maintain system performance, efficiency, and integrity of a database system in coordination with the larger BigBear IL6 team.
  • Provide oral and written advice and explanations to technicians and senior leaders.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, Information Assurance (Cyber) and QA staff.
  • Provide user support post-launch and assist with creating user education materials (written and video).
  • Additional opportunities to use & develop skills in company Hackathons.

What you need to have

  • Clearance: Must possess and maintain an Active Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or comparable degree or:
    • Associate degree and 7+ years of experience, or;
    • Master's Degree and 3+ years of experience, or;
    • PhD and some professional experience
    • (in lieu of bachelor's degree, 9+ years of relevant experience)
  • Minimum of five years of database admin experience.
  • Minimum of three years-experience with Department of the Army, Department of Defense and/or Joint Staff force structure, programs, automation systems, and strategic operational requirements.
  • DoD Directive 8570/8140.01 IAT/IAM Level 2 Certification such as Security+ (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
  • Demonstrated excellence in analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • An ability to rapidly internalize unfamiliar concepts and systems, determine how best to leverage automation to resolve inefficiencies and improve collaboration.
  • Proven documentation skills and demonstrable competency with: Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Share Point, Teams and Access.
  • Demonstrable experience leveraging relational databases to support application development. SQL skills required.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Experience with project and task planning to include scope of work, time estimation, and resource assignment.
  • Ability to resolve problems in a timely, professional manner within a team environment.
  • An ability to rapidly internalize unfamiliar concepts and systems, determine how best to leverage automation to resolve inefficiencies and improve collaboration.
  • Proven documentation skills and demonstrable competency with: Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Share Point, Teams and Access.
  • Ability to impact operations and effect change without being confrontational.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

What we'd like you to have

  • Experience with a statistical tool is a plus.
  • Collecting, analyzing documents, and business processes a plus.
  • Data modeling, dimensional modeling, and working with large data sets.
  • Travel - Occasional CONUS Travel required, ~ 5% - 10%.
