Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse (AN) or Charge Nurse, the Clinical Nurse II (CNII) is responsible for providing skilled and comprehensive nursing care to radiation oncology patients with a wide variety of oncological and/or disease related problems seen for consultation, treatment, and follow-up. Through application of the nursing process, the CNII provides direct care and implements plans for continuity and coordination of patient care with other members of the patient's health care team. In collaboration with the AN, the CNII provides appropriate guidance and supervision for ancillary nursing personnel and participates in orientation of new medical and/or technical personnel. Responsibilities include compliance with Medical Center and departmental Policies and Procedures, Environmental Safety, House and Telephone Standards, compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. The RadOnc RN helps manage side effects, symptoms, care and coordination of complex interdisciplinary services. The CNII will work closely with one or more physicians who will be directing and delegating care as appropriate.

The position will involve travel between UCSF Radiation Oncology sites. This role will function as a "float" RN to Parnassus, Mount Zion, & Mission Bay RadOnc locations, including our HDR procedure suite. The hours are daytime M-F, generally from about 7AM to 5PM, but may vary with start times from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and end times may vary from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center Radiation Oncology locations.
  • Minimum of 3 years' clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of experience employed in an acute care setting, med surg or ICU.
  • Minimum 1 year of Oncology experience
  • Minimum 1 year of Ambulatory Nursing experience
  • Experience with starting IV's.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to interact on an interpersonal level with patients and staff. Ability to deal with issues related to death and dying.
  • Basic computer skills including, use of email, internet, navigating windows, and ability to learn various computer systems such as EPIC, Aria and other clinical tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Combination of experience working with cancer patients in hospital, procedural, and ambulatory care settings.
  • Accessing ports
  • Radiation Oncology experience
  • Telephone triage experience
  • Apex Inbasket experience
  • PALS Certification

License/Certification

  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification.
  • ACLS within 6 months of hire
