Job Description

DSA is seeking a highly qualified Senior SQL Database Administrator with an active TS/SCI clearance to join our team at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Required Qualifications

  • TS/SCI clearance with SBI and ability to attain SI, TK, G, HCS, and NATO Secret clearance
  • DoD 8140.03 IAT Level II/Intermediate certification
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MSCA) or SQL Server 2016 or SQL Database Administration Certification
  • Eight years of experience in SQL database administration supporting and managing databases in a production environment - Five years of experience installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft SQL Server in High Availability Group configurations
  • Five years of experience with T-SQL and ability to write scripts, stored procedures, triggers, and views to automate maintenance functions.
  • Three years of experience serving as a team leader working as both part of a team and independently to assign/review immediate tasks, set priorities, maintain task progress, validate team members work consistent with the organizational goals and deadlines.
  • Three years of experience mentoring junior personnel on proper practices and procedures.
  • Three years of experience planning and implementing security measures to safeguard information against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure in accordance with industry best practices and DISA STIGs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide database administration and management support for Relational Database Management Systems (RDMS) in a Microsoft SQL Server-based environment hosting databases across the supported networks for various .NET applications.
  • Maintain quality of service and availability of DAIIS RDMSs by establishing and enforcing organizational defined standards ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of databases through daily system checks with 100% of findings and statuses being recorded to DAIIS IT Portal.
  • There are currently approximately 15 daily systems checks required however the SQL DBA will be responsible for maintaining, reporting, and updating the daily checklists.
  • Ensure all SQL servers and instances have the latest Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) STIGs applied within 30 calendar days of release and uploaded to STIG management portals where available. Notify Government and TTM of any critical findings that cannot be remediated within 3 days of discovery.
  • Manipulate database objects and develop stored procedures, stored functions, and packages when needed based on customer requirements.
  • Ensure healthy and reliable data replication is maintained using technologies such as availability groups, etc.
  • Monitor performance and manage parameters to provide fast query responses to 'front end' users optimizing code and stored procedures while assisting application developers with database requirements.
  • Configure and utilize database connectivity tools and utilities while supporting developers, programmers, and engineers during software development.
  • Map out a conceptual design for database enhancements, considering both 'back end' organization of data and 'front end' accessibility for end user.
  • Research, test, and implement new versions of the Database Management System (DBMS) for inclusion into DAIIS infrastructure as they become available.
  • Implement security requirements for least privileged access to organizational databases and monitor user access and security.
  • Develop and maintain database documentation to include updating existing and creating new Standard Operating Procedures, TTPs, logical architecture diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, server lists, and other database administration related documentation on monthly basis adhering to organizational templates and policies.
  • Produce entity relationship and data flow diagrams, and database normalization schema's that are logical to physical data maps and data table parameters.
  • Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans, ensuring that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly to include monthly integrity testing of no less than ten (10) percent of DAIIS database backups on the supported networks.
  • Conduct capacity planning and assist with storage and architecture design.
  • Review "Database Daily Checks" list on the DAIIS IT Portal and complete the Daily System Checks assigned. Ensure 100% completion of all CRITICAL checks completed by 0700hrs daily, all other priority checks completed by 1000 daily. This includes performance, data integrity, and availability checks that are created daily on SIPRNET portal with required actions. Database administrators will complete checks and update lists with status and actions taken to resolve issues.
  • The SQL DBA will notify the Government of any unscheduled system outages within 30 minutes of each occurrence and add to the operations log within four (4) hours.
  • Provide after-hours on-site support to respond to system/application malfunctions. The SQL DBA will have 2 hours after notification of an issue to respond to the workplace. If after two hours on site the issue is not resolved, the SQL DBA will escalate the issue to the Project Manager who will provide hourly telephonic updates to the COR and TTM until the issue is resolved.
  • Makes sure configuration management data will be timely updated within one business day of any modification or update of infrastructure.
  • Provide restoration services sufficient to ensure high availability.
  • Monitor and assume responsibility of trouble tickets assigned to the Database Administration branch, assign specific tickets for resolution, and prioritize tickets in line with organizational goals of maintaining 99% system availability rate.
