Job Description

M.C. Dean is looking for a Technical Writer with experience within the Automation Controls or Industrial Automation industries. The Technical Writer position is responsible for taking complex, technical information and translating it into an easily understandable format. The Technical Writer will work closely with engineers and other internal employees to interpret specifications, engineering drawings, reports, and other data to ensure production of technical documentation that complies with customer, company, and industry requirements. Additionally, the Technical Writer will play a pivotal role in creating sophisticated proposals for government and commercial clients. These proposals are instrumental in securing key projects, thereby influencing the company's future growth and strategic direction.

In this capacity, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Write, edit, and meticulously proofread technical and proposal documents in response to client requests and requirements, adhering to established schedules and deadlines.
  • Acquire in-depth knowledge of Federal procurement and contracting processes to enhance proposal development.
  • Tackle challenges and requirements posed by major businesses, organizations, and Federal agencies in the industrial and automation systems domain.
  • Develop strategies for addressing business challenges and capitalizing on opportunities in the technical solutions field.
  • Collaborate closely with subject matter experts conducting thorough research, developing customer and program deliverables, and creating winning proposals while gaining firsthand insights into work processes.
  • Conceptualize impactful graphics, figures, tables, and other presentation elements to optimize the impact of information.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the collection and refinement of writing inputs from subject matter experts (SMEs) into well-organized, logical, and competitive proposals with a compelling narrative and appropriate support exhibits/illustrations.
  • Interview technical SMEs and convert high-level technical solution designs into detailed technical solution write-ups.
  • Outline, write, and edit technical proposals at various levels with a focus on identifying contextual errors, reorganizing content, and enhancing graphics, tables, and illustrations.
  • Actively participate in all phases of the technical writing process, including strategy sessions, refining ideas, and cultivating sources.
  • Ensure effective communication of win themes, key messages, discriminators, benefits, and proof points.
  • Meet customer-driven schedules for the submission of technical, management, and past performance sections, including the preparation of briefing and approval packages for senior and executive management.
  • Facilitate document review teams, collect and consolidate critical inputs, and coordinate revisions as necessary.
  • Resolve comments received from the review team.
  • Gathers information from SMEs, breaks complex processes into straightforward steps and ensures that documents contain the appropriate level of detail and instruction appropriate for the end user.
  • Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for technical and nontechnical users.
  • Maintain a library of documentation, cataloging it for revisions and changes made to each revision.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Use the English language concisely, accurately, and expressively. Interpret engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored for technical and industrial contexts.
  • Knowledge of business development, proposal writing, and/or Shipley proposal processes.
  • Experience supporting projects and/or proposals.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, particularly in the use of styles and creating/using templates.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong time management skills with the flexibility to adjust tasks as necessary in a high-volume, deadline-driven work environment.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Government security clearance.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience.
