POSITION SUMMARY:

The Systems Engineer I is responsible for assisting in the development and management of requirements and specifications, system integration and testing of electromechanical, fluidic, thermal control, and imaging systems, and formal verification and validation testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work within cross-functional teams to support the design and development of MSD instrumentation.

  • Provide input into analyses of data, drawing conclusions, presenting findings and making recommendations on relevant data.

  • Experimentally and analytically characterize system and subsystem performance and capabilities.

  • Participate in the design, implementation, and optimization of software sequences for automation of manual assay protocols on MSD instrumentation.

  • Participate in the development and documentation of failure modes, effects and criticality analyses.

  • Participate in the development of system design requirements and specifications.

  • Participate in the development and execution of system design verification and validation test plans.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of system and subsystem reliability test plans.

  • Generate and implement change orders to promote product design and process improvements.

  • Specific duties may vary depending upon departmental requirements


EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a closely related field
    • Associate's degree with commensurate experience may be substituted
  • Experience in scientific or medical instrumentation preferred, including various manufacturing methods/options and design ROI in a project driven environment
  • Experience in an ISO cGMP environment preferred


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of programming and data analysis tools such a Python, MATLAB, Minitab, or similar language.
  • Basic knowledge of analytical techniques, experimental design and statistical analysis
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage processes through to completion and coordinate a high level of activity under a variety of conditions and constraints
  • Demonstrated propensity to be creative, collaborative, proactive, and self-motivated in the execution and completion of assigned accountabilities.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills
    • Effectively communicate issues/problems and results that impact timelines, accuracy and reliability of project status
    • Excellent documentation skills, technical writing and presentation skills
  • A wide variety of creativity and latitude is expected including the ability to multi-task in an environment with changing priorities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The individual is occasionally required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to communicate and exchange information, utilize equipment necessary to perform the job, and move about the office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is performed in R&D, light-manufacturing, and engineering office environments.
