Job Description

Position Objective:

Collaborates with the leadership team in the planning and implementation of organizational and departmental goals. Creates a climate of innovation through role modeling, consultation, research, and facilitation of learning in collaboration with the clinical education team, departmental specific leadership, and department staff.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Provide professional support to internal and external customers that meet the needs of their diverse age and cultural backgrounds.
  2. Encourages staff participation in seminars, meetings, in-services, and shared governance activities. Offers guidance to staff in pursuit of continued professional development.
  3. Provides education to staff on regulatory standards and compliance, current clinical practice issues, and safety standards.
  4. Coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates the orientation process for new unit staff.
  5. Participates in processes to determine unit competencies and to assure competence of staff. Collaborates with other departments to ensure consistency and to avoid duplication.
  6. Demonstrates expert skill and knowledge in central sterile processing, incorporating developmental, cultural and ethical considerations. Acts as a resource for staff members.
  7. Demonstrates ability to assess the need for, plan, implement and evaluate high-quality, cost-effective educational programs for staff.
  8. Promotes a culture of trust, dedication and compassion by modeling ethical principles.
  9. Participates in department-specific and hospital-wide quality improvement activities.
  10. Actively participates in the activities of the Clinical Education Council.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate
  • Five years' experience in a supervisory or educator role in central sterile services.

Required License/Certifications:

  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) upon hire
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) upon hire
  • Certification in Healthcare Leadership (CHL)

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:

There is reasonable anticipation that employees will be exposed to blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials, and patients who may exhibit actual or potential verbal/physical abuse. The individual may be required to wear special protective and infection prevention gear such as mask, gown, and/or gloves.

Physical Demands -

Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
