CertainTeed R&D is seeking a talented, and energetic Senior Research Engineer to join the team. The individual in this role designs and conducts independent, accurate, and defensible scientific R&D activities to evaluate and improve the performance/cost of existing products, develop new products, and/or provide analytical and technical support to existing technologies and new product development. Prepares comprehensive documented observations, analyses, and interpretations of results, including technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses.

Responsibilities include:

• Manage all technical aspects of new product development, including assessment and evaluation of new ideas, development and testing of prototypes, and field testing, identify opportunities for the development of technologies for the benefit of the commercial building and infrastructure product line, working with the global research team.
• Communicate with Marketing, Plant, Tech Service, and Sales personnel as needed.
• Engage frequently with customers, suppliers, and GCP partners
• Propose new projects for R&D, productivity projects, or process/method enhancement.
• Innovate by providing novel solutions or new product concepts based on scientific principles.
• Contribute to patent protection of ideas
• Develop new test methods or procedures and validate the results.
• Maintain and troubleshoot lab instruments and field equipment in the area of focus.
• Ensure JSAs and SOPs for all equipment and operations are up to date.

• BS with 7+. MS with 3+ or entry-level Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related discipline
• Experience with asphalt, plastics, and pressure sensitive adhesives, and polymer structure-property relationships preferred
• Experience in the construction industry preferred
