STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGIES delivers and manages products, engineering support, repair and maintenance services to provide value-added solutions to owners, engineers and contractors. The Underground segment of our business is growing as we expand to take on full-service capabilities for repair and rehabilitation of all types of pressure and gravity structures.

Join our growing team as a Senior Underground Estimator. In this dynamic role you'll collaborate with our business development, operations and engineering teams to support pursuits of complex underground applications for pipelines, culverts and tunnels. Project scopes will vary and can include inspection and condition assessment support, repair and upgrade scopes for pressure and gravity pipelines, bypass, injection, grouting, soil stabilization, and corrosion mitigation. The Underground team works across municipal, industrial and power sectors, and person in this role will provide oversight and tracking for estimating and project status from identification to hand-off to operations.

In this role, you'll be taking on the following day-to-day:

  • Defining and quantifying scope of work and preparing comprehensive conceptual, budgetary, and construction cost estimates for projects.
  • Preparing estimates using statistical data, quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, equipment costs and applying to complete scope of work.
  • Reviewing / researching historical data and compiling summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
  • Supporting business development activities by attending preliminary project meetings, job walks, pre-bid meetings, and other customer-facing activities.
  • Providing reactive support to prospective projects through rough-order-of-magnitude budget development, coordination of constructability reviews, and overall coordination with operations team members.
  • Management of the hand-off process for projects which are transitioning from business development to the operations team.

We're looking for the following from you:

  • 5 years of construction estimating experience, ideally in a related industry involving pipeline rehabilitation, water/wastewater applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team to estimate projects of moderate complexity to high complexity.
  • Prior experience to estimate up to 100 projects per year directly and up to 50 estimates indirectly as a mentor.
  • Ability to evaluate, quantify and capture specification requirements within the estimate.
  • Prior experience working with terms & conditions in construction contracts.
  • A strong understanding of the construction market, including current market prices and clients (i.e: engineers, consultants, and owners).
  • Ability and experience participating in customer-facing activities such as pre-project meetings, job walks, pre-bid meetings.
  • Demonstrated construction math and computer skills including Microsoft Excel and / or construction estimating and scheduling software, Salesforce experience. Must also be able to demonstrate ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to travel 25-30%.
  • Candidates with bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management may be given preference.
