What You Will Be Doing

The Assistant Managing Attorney (AMA) assists the Managing Attorney in guiding the litigation process from commencement to resolution. The AMA renders advice on a wide range of procedural issues and strategic concerns arising in all stages of the litigation process. In addition to providing detailed analyses of federal, state and local rules of procedure, the AMA oversees the day-to-day operations of the Managing Attorney's Office, ensuring court filings calendaring and other important tasks are being completed in compliance with applicable rules and practices.

About This Role

  • Advise attorneys on a wide range of procedural issues and strategic concerns arising in all stages of the litigation process
  • Perform detailed analysis of federal, state and local rules of procedure. Conduct legal research, as necessary.
  • Review papers for compliance with rules and local practices.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Managing Attorney's Office, including:
    • Court filings and service of process;
    • Docketing of court papers and calendaring of critical deadlines; and
    • Supervision of MAO staff.
  • Prepare procedural guidelines, memoranda, and filing checklists.
  • Assist with preparation and presentation of in-house CLE programs.
  • Provide institutional knowledge to the firm's litigators on best practices and customs.
  • Contributes to the Firm's Service Excellence initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays professionalism, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.

Required Skills
  • Knowledgeable in federal and NY procedural rules and practices. Familiarity with NY federal and state local rules and practices.
  • Skilled in online legal research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent presentation skills.
  • Knowledgeable in calculating litigation-related deadlines.
  • Demonstrated business acumen; ability to think critically and exhibit sound judgment.
  • Ability to multitask and perform at a high-level in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to provide excellent client service. Receptive and responsive to client needs. Solution-driven.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and develop productive working relationships with team members, administrative groups, and clients (both internal and external).
Required Experience
  • At least three years in the Managing Attorney's/Clerk's office in a supervisory role or at least three years of litigation practice.
