Overview

The training and compliance coordinator will assist the ARC and IACUC management with investigator training initiatives, ARC staff education, training and on-boarding, helping ARC staff achieve AALAS Certifications, and continually evaluate CITI and other online educational resources for NCH investigators, research and ARC staff. This position will provide hands on training for all species for both ARC staff and researchers and ensure that we remain compliant with all regulatory required training including safety and occupational health risks. This position will report to the ARC Training and Compliance Specialist.

Responsibilities

TRAINING & ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Training program coordination including organizing training classes, ordering and maintaining supplies and equipment needed for training purposes, and setting up for training events

* Creating and updating SOP's, training documents, and courses for both online and hands on training. This will include the development and use of electronic methodologies (computer) to improve the availability and upkeep of these documents (i.e. sharepoint, ect...)

* Assisting investigators and veterinarians in method development and implementation of such methods through training.

* Provides training and validation of ARC staff regarding the correct performance of their duties and tasks

* Provides training to investigators and research staff on routine research techniques (i.e. restraint, blood sampling, anesthesia, euthanasia) and/or utilizes and schedules Subject Matter Experts to provide this training.

* Manage accounts with AALAS, CITI and other professional/educational institutions and assists with the veterinarian and veterinary technician licensing and credentialing process.

* Conducts on-boarding and training of researchers and ARC staff to ensure compliance with all federal, local and institutional guidelines.

* Ensures compliance with AAALAC standards and position statements

* Utilizes and helps to develop electronic methods for documentation of training (Training Tracker), documents all training events and personnel in attendance. Follows up to ensure that those individuals that are not present at the original training event receive the training at another time.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES and REQUIREMENTS for all POSITIONS REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Assists ARC management in assuring husbandry operations and veterinary care remains in compliance with ARC SOPs as well as the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and the Guide 2011 standards. Assists in preparing for AAALAC site visits and IACUC semiannual inspections by preparing the assigned areas for inspection and participating in inspection walk through.

CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

* Liaise with AALAS, CITI and other external training/education resources.

* Must have strong social and written skills in order to provide excellent service to any individual needing training or compliance assistance.

* Assist researchers with the process of completing the training and occupational health requirements to work with animals and obtain animal facility access. This includes working with other departments, such as research safety and security.

* Act as a liaison between research personnel and ARC management for all training related services.

* Provides training, oversight and validation for staff, including but not limited to, ARC veterinary technical support technicians and animal husbandry technicians.

HUSBANDRY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Advises and collaborates with animal care/technical staff supervisor(s) to ensure that required training is completed, updates training procedures as needed when processes change, and communicates concerns and solutions when a process needs to be reviewed for changes.

REQUIREMENTS

* Completes required RINCH safety training and tuberculosis and occupational health screening on an annual basis.

* Knowledgeable of the safety precautions practiced by animal technician personnel when dealing with the various research animal species.

* Remains familiar with Animal Resources Core (ARC) emergency response procedures.

* Strong inter-personnel skills

* Self-motivated and able to work autonomously (with consultation as needed)

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

* Bachelor's degree in a relevant subject (biology, animal sciences etc) is required.

* LATG certification through AALAS required or must be obtained within a reasonable time frame.

* 1 plus years of experience laboratory animal environment with evidence of mastering advanced technical skills and an interested in training others.

* Knowledgeable in regard to federal animal welfare regulations and AAALAC accreditation standards.

* Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to create online lesson modules.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills. MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Test negative or medical clearance for tuberculosis on an annual basis.

* Ability to lift bags of animal feed or equipment items weighing up to fifty pounds.
