Purpose of Position
The W. Frank Steely Library at Northern Kentucky University seeks a collaborative, visionary, and service-oriented individual to serve as Cataloging and Metadata Librarian. This non-tenure-track renewable faculty position is responsible for the vision, leadership, and strategic direction in metadata creation, organization, application, and management of current and emerging metadata schemas and techniques. The librarian will promote a culture of belonging by embracing equity, diversity, and inclusiveness in the library and across campus. As a faculty member, the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will be expected to participate on library and campus-wide committees and professional associations. The librarian will be engaged in fulfilling the educational mission of the university. As part of the Collections and Discovery Services Department, this position will be a pivotal player in providing accurate and timely access to all the library's collections - circulating, repository, open access, special collections, and teacher resources.

The W. Frank Steely Library provides a wide range of library services to support the University's commitment to its Success by Design strategic framework, which promotes student success by embracing inclusiveness, equity, global awareness, and academic needs of students and faculty in each academic college. Library faculty and staff have enhanced traditional services to better address 21st century information needs and are collaborative partners across campus.

NKU is a public comprehensive university located in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati, Ohio metropolitan area. The university delivers innovative, learner-centered education and engages in impactful scholarly and creative activities, all of which empower students for fulfilling careers and meaningful lives while contributing to the social and economic vitality of the region. NKU has almost 14,000 students, over 2,000 faculty and staff. It offers 79 undergraduate degree programs, master's degrees in 21 disciplines, graduate certificates in 15 areas, two doctoral programs, a law degree, and in a partnership with the University of Kentucky and St. Elizabeth Hospital opened a medical school in the fall of 2019.

Primary Responsibilities
Cataloging and Metadata
* Creates and maintains bibliographic records that facilitate discovery of the library's collections in multiple formats and multiple languages (Roman and non-Roman script) in the WorldShare Management System using current metadata standards and emerging metadata such as linked data to support diversity and inclusion.
* Creates and maintains bibliographic records for the institutional repository collection.
* Strategizes for optimizing the metadata in the WorldShare Management System, EBSCO Discovery System, the institutional repository, and other discovery tools in consultation with colleagues.
* Compiles and analyzes cataloging and collection statistics and reports.
* Writes, revises, and implements relevant departmental policies and procedures.

Research Help
* Provides weekly research help services, including reference desk hours, virtual chat, and consultations, to support in-person and virtual users.

Other
* Other duties as assigned.

Service
* Participates in library and campus-wide committees.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
* Master's degree from an ALA accredited library or information science program or an ALA approved foreign equivalent.
* Demonstrated experience applying metadata, such as MARC or Dublin Core.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in an academic library environment.
* Two years or more experience applying metadata, such as MARC or Dublin Core.
* Project management experience, with the ability to guide projects related to cataloging and metadata from initial idea to completion.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Experience in using, interpreting, and applying traditional and emerging metadata standards and schema used for print, digital, and archival collections, such as MARC21 bibliographic and authority formats, Dublin Core, Library of Congress classification schedules, Library of Congress Subject Headings, and Describing Archives A Content Standard (DACS).
* Ability to collaborate and to consult with various stakeholders to promote the discoverability of library resources.
* Demonstrated proficiency with OCLC and an integrated library system (ILS).
* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
* Commitment to participating in and building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community dedicated to student success and sense of belonging.
