Primary Responsibilities |
General Responsibilities of All Graduate Assistants: * Support, communicate, enforce, and abide by all University and department policies, procedures, and regulations. * Foster a supportive and challenging multi-cultural environment through staff selection and training, community programming and contact with staff and students. * Perform other duties consistent with the purpose of the position as assigned. * Over the course of the appointment period Graduate Assistants will be expected to work an average of 25 hours per week. * Serve on-duty one week per semester. |
Qualifications |
Conditions of Employment: * Successful completion of a background check. * Must enroll for a minimum of six credit hours and not exceed thirteen credit hours of graduate study each semester the assistantship is in effect. Anything beyond that must be approved by the Director/Associate Director in writing. * Must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain in good academic standing as defined by the Academic Catalog. * May not hold any other assistantship, fellowship, or other employment-including work-study either within or outside the university during the academic year. * Appointments are made for an academic year, though staff responsibilities begin in July prior to the fall semester opening of the residence halls and terminate after the spring semester closing of the residence halls in May. Summer employment may be available (contingent upon staffing needs); hiring priority is given to current staff. * Graduate Assistants may be required to remain on campus during usual academic break periods (i.e., fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, etc.) depending on assignment. * Reappointment is based upon job performance, evaluation, and continued enrollment in the university. * There may be a possibility for continued work over the summer months. Requirements: The GA must have a Bachelor's degree, enrollment in an NKU graduate program, preferably at least one year of living on campus and successfully passing a background check. Preference: * Previous university housing or residence life experience * Experience supervising staff All Graduate Assistants will receive the following compensation: * In-state tuition waiver * On campus housing accommodations * University Housing Staff meal plan * $8,000 stipend ($181/week) Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.
