The Senior Accountant will be primarily responsible for general ledger accounting, verifying, allocating, posting and reconciling accounts payable and receivable transactions and preparing related monthly reconciliations and schedules. The Senior Accountant supports the monthly closing process and generating related financial statements, as well as assisting with overseeing account payable functions and assisting with other duties assigned by the Assistant Controller and/or Executive Vice President, Finance.

Reportability

This position will report directly to the Assistant Controller.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Reconcile balance sheet (statement of position) and income statement (statement of activities) accounts, analyzing for completeness and appropriateness of recorded transactions.
  • Prepare routine and closing journal entries, and review those prepared by other staff members and accountant(s) as requested by the Assistant Controller.
  • Assist with managing and supervising accounts payable functions. Assign, direct, coach and oversee staff performance. (Account Payable Specialists).
  • Review daily transactions, schedule of payments, ongoing meetings on AP transactions and recommend payment schedule to Assistant Controller/EVP, Finance.
  • Review and post invoices and cash receipts to general ledger.
  • Complete various analysis to include monthly P&L variance analysis.
  • Assist the Assistant Controller, Budget Analyst & Contracts Accountants with responding to all levels of management's inquiries on budget, forecasts, and financial statements.
  • Assist with the implementation of necessary fiscal policies and procedures for efficient and accurate accountability of Mary's Center's finances.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Update data for 990 & assist in research and analysis on data surrounding the healthcare industry.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Controller and/or EVP, Finance.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities -

  • BA/BSc in Accounting or Finance preferred with minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a non-profit contract/grant management setting.
  • Requires experience in a highly computerized environment, the ability to manage multiple tasks with extreme attention to detail and deadlines, and strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work/communicate effectively in a multi-cultural team environment.
  • Must possess excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts.
  • Must have experience collaborating and/or managing a team of junior accountants.

Language Requirement - Ability to communicate effectively in English is required. Additional language proficiency or fluency preferred.

Physical Demands - Regularly required to sit; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

Work Environment - Mostly in a typical office or clinic setting with quiet to moderate noise level. May be exposed to extreme cold, heat, and humidity due to outside weather conditions. Opportunity to work a hybrid schedule - remotely & onsite, as needed.
