Job Description

Job Purpose

This position is accountable for effective management and leadership of the composite process development and manufacturing engineering entity for Global ASC. The primary focus is upon maturing applications and maintaining manufacturing, however, will also include new technology and innovation. This team's objectives are: 1- to work with customer designed products and create / design processes for the purposes of higher manufacturability and 2- Lead processing technology and innovation initiatives that are coordinated with AEC manufacturing processes, which will enable ASC to stay ahead of competitors in composite manufacturing. Individual will use the NPI process to guide products through a phase gate approach to ensure risks are identified and mitigated continuously. Extensive use and application of Lean and Six Sigma tools for the purpose of waste elimination and variation reduction is expected and direction must be provided to the team to help develop these skills and enhance the transition to manufacturing. Processes are expected to be leaned with full Cp, CpK before they move into production.

  • Plan and manage Global ASC engineering resources. Utilize and work with team to meet company goals and requirements for applications using AEC's technology.
  • Supervise, coordinate and direct Global ASC projects (customer and internally focused), making, tracking, and achieving detailed plans and budgets and directing the integration of technical activities with repeatable manufacturing output.
  • Drive Operational Excellence through the application of six sigma ideologies and use of tools and the application of Lean practices throughout the development activity. Rigorous use of DMAIC tools leading to the elimination of variability and the energetic mindset to do so is required in this leadership role.
  • Build a confident team - open and inclusive of different styles and approaches and consistent in the drive for the root cause. Recruit employees: assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Provide leadership and development of direct reports with performance appraisals, career development guidance, reward and recognition, and appropriate training opportunities.
  • Help support, drive,and execute on AEC's technology roadmap.
  • Participate in and potentially lead proposal creation for new work (recurring and non-recurring engineering efforts) as needed ensuring this teams focus is aptly represented in the ultimate proposal.
  • Maintain alignment with external customers for business and improvement plans.

Qualifications/Characteristics

Knowledge:

  • BS Engineering (BS ME, IE, ChemE or EE preferred)
  • Master's degree in engineering, Administration or related experience
  • 10+ years' experience in development or manufacturing industry including 5+ years supervisory experience.
  • Experience with concept creation through deployment using a gated process (New Product Introduction)
  • Understanding of Manufacturing and Technology readiness progression (MRL/TRL)
  • Aerospace experience preferred.
  • Experience in ISO 9001/AS9100 Quality Assurance Systems or equivalent
  • Composite processing experience a plus

Skills:

  • Six Sigma Black belt
  • Ability to visualize complex designs from conception to implementation.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills in a teamwork setting
  • MSOffice proficient (Excel, PowerPoint and Visio skills required)

Working Conditions

Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures. Occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts. Ability to work 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations require. 15-20% Travel required (USA, Mexico, France)

Physical requirements

Occasionally positions self to move an office item >10 lbs.

Frequently move about the production floor and office area to attend meetings or trainings.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 75% of the time.

Frequently operates a computer, enters data into systems, verifies information, etc....
