This position manages Graduate School operations in the Washington DC Metro area, including oversight of Graduate School services, budget, and communications, and provides administrative support and counsel to the associate dean.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading the planning and executing of onboarding, professional development and community-building programs for graduate students, including orientation, commencement and other special events;
* Managing Graduate School communications in the area in coordination with the Graduate School director of communication in Blacksburg, including managing student and program-facing listservs; preparing promotional materials for Graduate School events, services and programs; and managing content for digital signage and web pages;
* Collaborating with various departments, programs and organizations to advance graduate education and advocate for outstanding graduate student services in the region and supporting the learning and professional development of graduate students; attending meetings and serving on committees on behalf of the associate dean of the Graduate School;
* Serving as a co-advisor to the DC-Graduate Student Assembly.
* Supervising DC-area Graduate School staff and day-to-day operations, ensuring consistency and alignment with Graduate School policies, procedures and practices within the DC area as well as with the main campus; arranging travel for the associate dean and maintaining records for the Graduate School; managing office communication on behalf of the associate dean, and arranging/tracking VIP meetings.
* Serving as a Graduate School liaison to Hokie One Stop (HOS), coordinating with HOS leadership and aligning Graduate School contributions with other service providers.
* Ensuring equity and accessibility of Graduate School services in the region, evaluating needs and aligning resources in close collaboration with Blacksburg colleagues.


Reporting directly to the Associate Dean, this individual routinely interacts with a diverse population of students, department personnel, faculty and others on behalf of the Graduate School in a variety of capacities. Evening and occasional weekend work required.

Required Qualifications

* Master's degree
* Experience with coordinating and managing events and services, including budgeting and logistics from concept to implementation.
* Experience with supervision and budget management
* Strong communication skills, ability to prioritize, flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to university success.
* Demonstrated proficiency with email, spreadsheets, online calendars/forms, shared cloud documents, Microsoft Office and Google Apps for Education
* Ability to work independently
* Supportive of university-level inclusion and diversity efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working with graduate and professional students
* Experience with managing change and leading through transitions
* Experience with academic and operations policies and procedures at Virginia Tech
* Experience with VT systems such as Banner, HokieMart, and AmericaToGo
* Graphic design experience with newsletters, event flyers, and social media
* Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas
