DESCRIPTION

Decypher is seeking qualified Interventional Radiologic Technologists to support the mission at Ft. Belvoir

RESPONSIBILITIES

. Assess, coordinate, facilitate, deliver, and evaluate care for infant to geriatric patients using the nursing process.

Assist in the maintenance of the archiving and recording of patient studies.

Accept accountability and responsibility for all technical demands in the IR Clinic.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of radiation protection standards, devices, and techniques including concepts of accumulated dosage and genetic changes, effects of radiation on living organisms and the Effects of xray technique on patient and operator exposure to assure that adequate safeguards are maintained, to recognize when changes of equipment or procedure might result in increased exposure, and to adopt methods to prevent such exposure.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of aspects of basic physics including the concepts of energy, electrical power and types of circuits, construction and use of x-ray tubes and the properties of x-rays to understand the operation of the x-ray equipment, monitor the equipment for proper operation, make changes to standard procedures to compensate for equipment aging, and determine when maintenance or repair is needed.

Demonstrate knowledge of physiology and anatomy, such as the location, appearance, and function of various major and minor systems susceptible to Radiologic exposure and the physical abnormalities with most diseases or lesions which are customarily depicted by the procedures performed in the IR Clinic, to interpret examination requests accurately

Demonstrate knowledge required to operate intravenous (I.V.) pumps and highpressure dye injector pump and to interpret proper settings as directed by the radiologist.

Required to know how to recognize, understand, and correct abnormal conditions and alarms produced by this equipment.

. Demonstrate knowledge of basic nursing practices related to IR, such as administration of oxygen and performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Scrubs in, when directed to by the radiologist, to assist with the procedure being performed.

Understand and operate state of the art Digital Subtraction Angiography equipment, stationary and portable, and portable x-ray machines.

Work constructively with on-call ATAMMC consultants and support staff.

Assists the physician (radiologist) in conducting highly specialized diagnostic examinations in the IR Clinic which include, but are not limited to: Neurologic, Arteriography, Intracranial, Extracranial, Spinal, Demography, Intracranial Extracranial, Interventional Procedures, Embolization, Thrombolysis, Angioplasty Stent, Placement, Foreign Body Retrieval Genitourinary, Arteriography, Renal, Adrenal Reproductive, Venography, Adrenal Gonadal, Venous Sampling, Interventional Procedures, Pharmocangiography, Embolization, Angioplasty, Stone Removal, Percutaneous, Transhepatic, Cholangiogram, Biliary, Drainage/Stenting, Choleocystostomy, Gastrostomy/Gastrojejunostomy. Portal Shunts Chemoembolization, Drainage Procedures, Biopsy, (percutaneous or transvascular), Peripheral Arteriography, Abdominal aortography, Upper Extremity, and Lower Extremity Pelvic.

Interventional Procedures mechanical include but are not limited to: Venography, Upper Extremity, Lower Extremity, Pelvic, Inferior Vena Cava PVA, Stents. ? Thrombectomy Pharmacologic include but are not limited to r-TPA, urokinase, streptokinase, Caval Filter Placement, Embolization, Central Venous Access/Port Placement Stent Grafts Foreign Body Retrieval AV Dialysis, Diagnostic Angiography Intervention Thoracic, Angiography Aortography Pulmonary Bronchial Superior Vena Cava, Interventional Procedures, Embolization Thrombolysis/Thrombectomy, Angioplasty Stents, Biopsy, Drainage Procedures, Foreign Body Retrieval

Scrub in with the physician to assist handing off medical instruments (catheters, guidewires, dilators, needles, sponges, flush and contrast solutions. Dress operation site as needed.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of sterile technique, to assist physicians and nurses throughout the procedure.

. Demonstrate knowledge of basic nursing practices related to IR such as administration of oxygen and emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Demonstrate awareness of vital sign monitors and can recognize abnormal . settings/trends.

Prepare opaque media, loads, and operates high pressure injector systems.

Prepare intravenous infusions and sets up and programs infusion pumps.

. Understand and practices all safety regulations such as quality accreditation, radiation safety, standard and Transmission-based precautions.

. Responsible for all aspects of patient care while the patient is in the clinic. This includes correct recording on pertinent paperwork for patient care.

Assist with patient care in the CVIR prep and recovery area to include initiating IV access, completing questionnaires, performing circulation checks, and providing plan of care instructions to patients.

. Access ports, PICCs and other central line devices and administers medication in these devices as prescribed.

Prepare and instruct patients for procedures, provide post procedure instructions as well as home care instructions.

Monitor data display on physiological equipment, obtains and record vital signs. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and respond to code situations to the current Advanced Coronary Life Support (ACLS) standards.

Perform iSTAT laboratory administrative, maintenance, and support functions.

Ensure equipment is calibrated to manufacturer's specifications. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize (or prepare for sterilization) CVIR equipment and supplies. Perform operational checks and inspect equipment. 2

Recover rooms post procedure to include the cleaning of equipment, return unused supplies to stock, proper disposal of waste material and linen,

Maintain inventory level of disposable supplies; stock accordingly; and return excess stock.

Prepare equipment requisition. Maintain "crash cart". Ensure 29. emergency equipment is available and functional.

Cardiology Procedures: Assists the physician (cardiologist) in conducting specialized diagnostic examinations and interventional procedure in the CVIR as circulator which include, but are not limited to: ? Left Heart Catheterization ? Right Heart Catheterization ? 12 Lead EKG ? Routine and Emergent Percutaneous Coronary Angioplasty (STEMI) ? Pericardiocentesis

Maximize the Radiographer scope of practice and maintain the radiographer clinical performance standards as outlined in the American Society of Radiologic Technologist (ASRT) "The Practice Standards for Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy" 2016.

. Assist with the orientation of new staff and medical students.

Participate in mandatory training, unit training and competency programs.

Utilize daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, biannual, and annual checklists to maintain the unit in a state of readiness for procedures and patient care..

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree/Education (5.2.4): Graduation from an interventional radiology technologist education program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): Must have passed the Vascular-Interventional Radiography AART Advanced Level Certification Exam. Must possess a Certificate of Vascular-Interventional Radiology (VIR or Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology (CVIR). Must have current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) as a Registered Technologist (R.T.) (ARRT). Must possess a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Must have advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification.

Experience: A minimum of 5 year of experience in Interventional Radiology. Shall be able to read, write, speak, and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers. Shall be knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with radiologist, medical staff, patients, and family members. Shall be sufficiently skilled to teach patients proper self-care and to motivate patients 25 and family members to continue the procedures for promoting rapid healing. Shall be knowledgeable and possess skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients. The Contract Radiologist shall demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the appropriate patient population served: Infants, Children, Adolescent, Adults, and Geriatric (>65). Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments related to prevention, and detection of illnesses in adults, is desirable. Shall be knowledgeable in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform radiologist assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients, as appropriate. Shall be knowledgeable of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
