Mission: As a member of the NGA DEFENDER Computer Network Exploitation team, the contractor executes computer network operations via penetration testing and emulating Advanced Adversaries, Insider Threats, and Purple Team against NGA systems for the purpose of strengthening information system security. Cyber Operations Planners develop detailed plans for the conduct or support of the applicable range of cyber operations through collaboration with other planners, operators and/or analysts. They also participate in targeting selection, validation, synchronization, and enables integration during the execution of cyber actions. This position is available immediately and supports the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) onsite at NGA headquarters in Springfield, VA.

Responsibilities: Ideal candidate will assist the customer in providing technical and engineering support to sensitive and highly regulated Computer Network Exploitation (CNE) operations designed to identify vulnerabilities subject to Advanced Persistent Threats (APT) or other emerging, time sensitive cyber threats on the customers networks. Additional the successful candidate will, plan, implement, and operate network services/systems, to include hardware and virtual environments. They also configure and optimize network hubs, routers, and switches (e.g., higher-level protocols, tunneling), and develop and implement network backup and recovery procedures, and diagnose network connectivity problems. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Implement new system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
  • Install and maintain network infrastructure device operating system software (e.g., IOS, firmware).
  • Install or replace network hubs, routers, and switches.
  • Integrate new systems into existing network architecture.
  • Monitor network capacity and performance.
  • Patch network vulnerabilities to ensure that information is safeguarded against outside parties.
  • Provide feedback on network requirements, including network architecture and infrastructure.
  • Test and maintain network infrastructure including software and hardware devices.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or other technically relevant degree.- in lieu of degree CEH, CFR, Cloud+, GICSP, or SSCP may be accepted
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies, and risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).
  • Familiar with laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity and privacy.
  • Experience with cyber threats and vulnerabilities and of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses.
  • Knowledge of capabilities and applications of network equipment including routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware, and of Local and Wide Area Network connections.
  • Understands information technology (IT) security principles and methods (e.g., firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption), and local area and wide area networking principles and concepts including bandwidth management.
  • Knowledge of how traffic flows across the network (e.g., Transmission Control Protocol [TCP] and Internet Protocol [IP], Open System Interconnection Model [OSI], Information Technology Infrastructure Library, current version [ITIL]).
  • Experience with server administration and systems engineering theories, concepts, and methods, and of telecommunications concepts (e.g., Communications channel, Systems Link Budgeting, Spectral efficiency, Multiplexing) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) security.
  • Experience with network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, NSlookup) and different types of network communication (e.g., LAN, WAN, MAN, WLAN, WWAN).
  • Understands network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth) and network systems management principles, models, methods (e.g., end-to-end systems performance monitoring), and tools.
  • Familiar with transmission records (e.g., Bluetooth, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Infrared Networking (IR), Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi). paging, cellular, satellite dishes, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)), and jamming techniques that enable transmission of undesirable information, or prevent installed systems from operating correctly.
  • TS/SCI eligible, subject to CI Polygraph
  • IAT Level 2

Desired/Preferred Skills

  • Analyze network traffic capacity and performance characteristic, establish a routing schema, and install, configure, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, and switches.
  • Implement, maintain, and improve established network security practices.
  • Use network management tools to analyze network traffic patterns (e.g., simple network management protocol).
  • Protect a network against malware. (e.g., NIPS, antimalware, restrict/prevent external devices, spam filters).
  • Implement and test network infrastructure contingency and recovery plans.
  • Configure and utilize computer and network protection components (e.g., hardware firewalls, VPNs, network intrusion detection systems, servers, routers, as appropriate).
  • Operate network equipment including hubs, routers, switches, bridges, servers, transmission media, and related hardware.
  • Operate the organization's LAN/WAN pathways and monitor measures or indicators of system performance and availability.
  • Operate and interpret the information collected by network tools (e.g., NSlookup, Ping, and Traceroute).
  • IAT Certs preferred: Certifications: CEH or CFR or Cloud+ or GICSP or SSCP
