Job Description
We are seeking a talented, highly motivated Senior Bioinformatics Research Scientist to join the newly formed Center of Excellence in Innate Immunity and Inflammation (CoE-III), directed byDr. Thirumala Devi-Kanneganti. The mission of the CoE-III is to define innate immune mechanisms driving health and disease, with key focus areas of understanding the fundamental mechanisms of III and investigating III across the disease spectrum, from infection to inflammatory diseases and cancer.

In this position, the successful candidate will lead the bioinformatics pipeline and develop innovative solutions for analyzing and visualizing omics data related to innate immune signaling projects. The candidate will work both collaboratively and independently on projects within the CoE-III. The candidate will lead cutting-edge computational analyses of omics datasets including proteomics, RNAseq, and microarray data, along with filling other needs as they are identified. The candidate will ensure the highly effective and accessible end results of these projects, as well as the scientific accuracy and robustness.

Candidates with a strong background in transcriptomic and proteomic data analysis are highly encouraged to apply for this position. Successful candidates will have excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and data management skills and a keen attention to detail. Knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence tools is a plus.

The CoE-IIIoffers a fast-paced research environment focused on the innate immune system, including an opportunity to collaborate with researchers in the departments of Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, and beyond. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has state-of-the-art facilities including core laboratories for proteomics,microarray and RNA-seq analysis of gene expression, transgenic/knock-out technology, and animal facilities from biosafety level 2 to enhanced biosafety level 3.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, statistics/computer science (with a background in biological sciences or chemistry) or related field.
  • Master's degree or PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant post-degree work in bioinformatics, cheminformatics, statistics/computer science (with a background in biological sciences or chemistry).
  • Experience Exception: Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant post-degree experience (OR) PhD with 2+ years of relevant post-degree experience.
  • Significant experience in at least one programming or scripting language and at least one statistical package, with R preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Senior Bioinformatics Research Scientist.
