Job Description

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Auxiliary Marine Engineer to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will have a significant understanding of shipboard auxiliary systems, their design, and shipboard integration. The candidate will assist the USCG Ship Design Team with the design review of the Offshore Patrol Cutter, Polar Security Cutter, and Waterways Commerce Cutter.

The candidate's responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
  • Lead engineers in development efforts, coordinate with other functional areas to complete ship design
  • Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
  • Conduct analyses propulsion systems and types, marine auxiliary piping systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
  • Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.
  • Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with shipyards.
  • Communicate and participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and working groups with other USCG and Navy entities.

Location: Full time onsite at USCG Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Some limited telework/remote flexibility may be available.

Pay: $115k+ based upon qualifications

US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.

Secret Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate will either already posses an active or interim Secret clearance (preferred), or be eligible to obtain a new Secret clearance upon hire.

Required Education, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree (e.g., BS, BE) from an accredited institution in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a similar discipline.
    • Masters degree (MS, ME) in a related technical discipline preferred, but not required.
  • Must have at least six (6) years of recent, relevant experience. Within this total experience, the candidate must have:
    • Minimum of six (6) years documented experience with design optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
    • Experience with Navy, DoD, or U.S. Coast Guard shipbuilding programs preferred.
    • Experience with ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
  • Performs all functions independently, lead and train junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Familiarity with the USCG Standard Workstation and associated software products.

Travel Requirements:

  • Approximately 0-10% travel anticipated.
