Role Purpose:

Working within the Group Technology and Operational Excellence function, the purpose of this role is to:

  • Collaborate with Sectors and Campaigns across all markets to develop Technical Capabilities in line with the S&T Vision and Sector Strategies
  • Provide medium / longer term strategic thinking to drive the evolution of the Technical Capability portfolio in line with market trends
  • Ensure that there is a common QinetiQ Technical Capability Framework across the QinetiQ Operating Sectors
  • Enable the access of technical capability from one QinetiQ region to another and support the operationalisation of Single Route to Market for offerings

Key Accountabilities:

  • Partner with the People function (and Sectors) to set the direction, design and implement the strategic workforce planning programme
  • Develop QinetiQ's overall technical capability portfolio and capability roadmaps in conjunction with the Operating Sectors; maintain and evolve the portfolio as the in line with customer/market developments
  • Lead technology horizon scanning and identify potential opportunities for building capability and offerings (including acquisitions)
  • Design and grow Capability Investment portfolio and IP Portfolio, ensuring ROI for QinetiQ
  • Matrix manage the team of "technical capability leads" in each of the Sectors that support the technical capability portfolio; direct and coach them to develop strategies and roadmaps for their capability areas
  • Develop and maintain the Group-wide framework for Technical Capabilities, e.g. taxonomy, technical competencies and embed in the Operating Sectors
  • Develop and maintain the policy & procedure for inter-region working, i.e. access of capability in one region from another region
  • Partner with the Growth function to operationalise Single Route to Market underpinned by Technical Capability Framework

  • Strategic thinker: ability to think long-term and beyond immediate area of responsibility, requiring: business awareness, critical analysis & integration of information, ability to bridge "old and new" ways of working, development of action-oriented plans and ability to generate strategic vision using the current organisation context.

  • Stakeholder Management: being able to identify, plan and implement actions to positively engage parties with an interest in, or influence over, the S&T strategy outcomes
  • Collaboration and Influence: working effectively with, and influencing across QinetiQ and our customers to deliver the growth of the S&T capabilities.
  • Investment management and business cases
  • Leadership of highly qualified technical staff in a matrix organisation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, verbal and written

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years experience of working in a technology rich industry
  • Minimum 2 years experience of working with defence and/or security
  • Demonstrated experience of successfully working in multi-country international matrix organisations
  • Has carried out a variety of complex roles working across multiple businesses
  • Degree qualified in a relevant technical discipline
