Job Description

The Office of Interscholastic Athletics is responsible planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining athletic services, in accordance with Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association rules and regulations. The Staff Specialist will support the Coordinator with managing and supporting school-based Athletic Directors and coaches, along with related events and special recognition activities.

Essential Functions
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with school-based Athletic Directors, coaches, and administration.
  • By direction of the coordinator, ensures that each City Schools' high school offering MPSSAA Interscholastic Athletic Teams also offers at least one athletic team especially designed for student-athletes with disabilities.
  • By direction of the coordinator, ensures that each City Schools' middle school offering Interscholastic Athletic Teams (through the Office of Interscholastic Athletics) also offers at least one athletic team especially designed for student-athletes with disabilities.
  • By direction of the coordinator, coordinates transportation and scheduling of games between schools and facilities ensuring that teams including student-athletes with disabilities receive the same transportation accommodations indicated on their IEP.
  • By direction of the coordinator, monitors and oversees compliance, to the portions of federal, state, and local policies, rules, and regulations regarding students with disabilities.
  • Completes day-to-day operations of the athletic department to ensure department supports student academic and emotional success.
  • Collects and analyzes reports based on information from Athletic Directors and coaches.
  • Assists Coordinator with collecting, analyzing, and tracking eligibility for each school's sport according to all state and Interscholastic Athletic Program rules and regulations.
  • Assists coordinator in ensuring all financial activities are done in accordance with Board Policy and Maryland State law.
  • Assists with procurement for ordering equipment, uniforms, supplies, etc., and the delivery of these items for the department; completes documentation for all inventory.
  • Supports coordination of season and individual scheduling as needed.
  • Identifies better processes for support and monitoring of Athletics funding, scheduling, and organization.
  • Assists Coordinator to fulfill MSDE and MPSSAA reporting requirements.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.
Maximum Salary 86801.00
Minimum Salary 70148.00
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of experience in academic and/or public policy administration with prior experience in an educational setting preferred.
  • Evidence of satisfactory performance as a high school coach; evidence of involvement in many aspects of the athletic programming.
  • NIAAA Registered Athletic Administrator (RAA) certification or higher preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legislation and guidelines governing Interscholastic Athletic Programs
  • Candidate must show evidence of administration, organizational, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Ability to read, interpret, apply, relay, and implement policy, rules, and federal regulations.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of computer applications and technology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Valid Class C Noncommercial driver's license and daily access to personal transportation.
