Job Description

Position Summary:
Support the Body Fluid Donor Program (BFDP) at the Edgewater site through blood draws, and interaction with donors from 7:00-11:00 a.m. Monday-Friday. Phlebotomist will conduct duties according to Siemens Healthineers BFDP protocol and will be trained by on-site Occupational Health Nurse. All blood draw supplies will be provided by Siemens Healthineers.

Primary Responsibilities:
* Preparing patients before drawing blood
* Explaining blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process
* Following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas
* Gathering medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes
* Verifying patient information and labeling blood samples properly
* Accurately updating patient information in the organization's database
* Helping nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws
* Working with supervising Occupational Health nurse and following their directions at all times
* Adhering to the site biosafety guidelines, standards for medical record/information confidentiality and the rules and standards governing the art of phlebotomy.
* Following Body Fluid Donor Program processes and policies and checking the required reports and completing paperwork
* Scheduling random donors via Microsoft booking page
* Entering data into the Electronic Health Record
* Completing bi-weekly payroll
* Collaborating with Labs for supplies and blood order needs as needed.

Desired Skill and Experience:
* Professional certification or diploma in phlebotomy from a recognized program
* Ability to successfully draw blood from patients with minimal or no complications
* Empathy and interpersonal skills for working with patients
* Detail-oriented and committed to ensuring patient confidentiality
* Excellent motor skills and the ability to stand for long periods of time
* Advanced written and verbal communication skills
* Data entry and computer skills
* Strong attention to detail
