The Role

As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Senior/Staff Product Cybersecurity Engineer focused on medical devices. This role is a hands-on position that delivers cyber security leadership on large and small medical device product initiatives and is a key influencer, focusing on how best to implement and operationalize information security best practices in product and product supporting systems solution architecture and design.

This will require an excellent understanding of application security best practices, fundamental information security principles, QuidelOrtho product IT architecture, systems offerings to QuidelOrtho from third party vendors, and processes used on product systems development and maintenance. Advanced knowledge and experience with global medical device cybersecurity regulations and practices is necessary. This position is suited to a self-motivated individual, capable of operating with minimal levels of supervision.

This position in located in San Diego, CA - Summers Ridge working in a hybrid schedule.

The Responsibilities

  • Providing technical security leadership across product applications development team,
  • Translating security related system & software architecture into design and implementation, leveraging Ortho Information Security policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Design and implement consistent, effective, and efficient information security related checkpoints access all product/R&D areas.
  • Ensure that all architecture, design and prototypes for platform technologies and user interface (UI) follow Ortho information security policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Participates as the Business Fields IT staff team member - to assure alignment with all product and connectivity initiatives.
  • Participates as a cybersecurity subject matter expert in relevant product development team meetings.
  • Participates as a subject matter expert connecting with customers and commercial staff to help answer cyber related questions supporting existing and new business opportunities
  • Assist and lead in routine vulnerability assessments or current products and product systems, to ensure the cyber security measures remain adequate. This will include:
  • Repeat vulnerability scanning to ensure product remain secure in the light of new threats.
  • Monitor patch controls and status to ensure products are systems are kept up to date with relevant security patches and software releases.
  • Effectively work in and support global GRC platform.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

The Individual

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity or related field (Engineering, Engineering Systems) or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
  • Overall 10-15 years' experience working in product software development and cybersecurity.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with emphasis on IT security control systems support of medical device security or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two to three years within one of the medical device cybersecurity regulations and development.
  • Experience leading a matrix team of professionals and communicating with various levels of management is highly desired.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical.
  • Proactive, self-motivated with the ability to motivate others and a customer-focused attitude.
  • Proven project management track record in delivering global projects from inception thought to completion.

  • Local IT Security Team, Regulatory and Medical Device Product development teams

External Partners:

  • Customers and 3rd party vendors

The Work Environment

No strenuous physical activity, though occasional light lifting of files and related materials is required. 30% of time in meetings, working with team, or talking on the phone, 70% of the time at the desk on computer, doing analytical work. Minimal travel required.

Salary Transparency

The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $ 92,900.00 - 170,000.00 and is bonus eligible or eligible for incentive compensation.
