Job Summary
ThispositionwillsupporttheNIHOccupationalMedicalServicelocatedinBethesda,Maryland.
TheStaffNursewillprovideconfidentialmedicalservicestoemployeesforavarietyofwork-relatedmedicalandcounselingservices.OMSworksundertheDepartmentofHealthandSafetywithinNIHandcollaborateswithsafetyprofessionalsandNIHresearchers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
TheincumbentperformsdutiesasdescribedbelowinaccordancewithOMSpoliciesandprocedures:
ClinicalResponsibilities(70%)
- Independentlyperformsinitialevaluationandtriagingmedicalemergencies;
- Assistsintheclinicalcareprovidedformedicalemergenciestoincludewoundcare,medicationadministration,phlebotomy,EKG'sandBGM;
- Assistinimplementinghealthpromotionactivitieswithinthe NIHcommunity;
- Abilitytoworkwithinamulti-disciplinaryteamtoperforminitialassessment,treatment,andcounselingofoccupationalinjuriesandillnessandmentalhealthcrises.Whennecessarymakeappropriatereferralstointernalandexternalprovidersrelatedtoinjuryorillness;
- Provideproperdocumentationandeducation toemployeesaboutworkerscompensationandworkrestrictionsfollowinganaccidentorillness;
- Independentlyconductspre-placementmedicalevaluationstoincludevitalsigns,hearing/visiontestingandEKG's;
- Enrollandeducateemployeesinappropriatemedicalsurveillanceprograms(animalexposureprogram,tuberculosis,andbiologicalsuretyprogram);
- Strongworkingknowledgeofhowtoprovidepatienteducationandtreatmenttoemployeeswhomaybeexposedtobloodbornepathogens;
- Provideworkrelatedimmunizations,includinginternationaltravelimmunizationsandcounselingto NIHemployees;
- Complieswithuniversalprecautions,infectioncontrolandwastemanagementguidelines;
- Managetriagetelephonecallsandwalk-inpatientsinaprofessionalandwithquickassessmentskills;
- Nurse must be willing and able to provide ad hoc support in Baltimore and Frederick satellite clinics;
- Nursewillbecrosstrainedforcoverageinsatelliteclinics
AdministrativeResponsibilities(30%)
- ReviewandreviseallsectionsoftheOMSproceduremanualannually;
- Participateinqualityimprovementactivities;
- Participateinnursetrainingandstaff meetings.
- WorkwithOMSPhysiciansandAdvanced PracticeProvidersonnewOMSinitiatives.
