This position is based in Washington, D.C. However, the nature of The Clearing's work and project-based environment requires travel to client locations in and around the D.C. metro area, including the greater Baltimore area. Occasional travel outside the D.C. metro area or out of state may be required at times.


POSITION SUMMARY


The Senior Principal owns overall accountability for multiple projects including service delivery, account governance, and ability to manage a business unit with profit/loss responsibility. S/he builds and maintains strong, trusted relationships with key clients. S/he is responsible for driving revenue in existing accounts and developing new customer accounts. S/he is a mentor to staff and leads engagement teams. Senior Principals at The Clearing design, allocate resources, and set strategic direction for projects and programs. Senior Principals leads multiple project teams of 10+ staff members and are expected to advise staff on project work/deliverables and guide project work by using proven methodologies and frameworks. Senior Principals tracks project/program success against work plans and project targets, including utilization, budget, scope, and timeline to completion. They are responsible for ensuring the quality of all project and client deliverables. Senior Principals set and manage client expectations for work, staff, and the overall consulting engagement experience. Developing trusted working relationships with existing clientele is critical, as is expanding client relationships and building new business with them. Senior Principals are responsible for the performance and development of their staff. They serve as a mentor and Career Advisor for 3+ junior staff members. Senior Principals contribute to a culture of learning that drives individual and organizational development. The ideal candidate excels in a team environment and enables effective communication and collaboration among projects and teams.


WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO


Project Management

  • Designs, allocates resources for, and sets strategic direction for projects and programs
  • Owns project quality, profitability, staff delivery, and customer satisfaction ratings/comments
  • Develops and manages the financial plan for an account, including business development, staffing, and profitability
  • Owns revenue generation responsibility for one or more large project or account
  • Oversees client management and satisfaction for major client projects
  • Advises consultants on project work and products; guides work using methodologies and frameworks
  • Tracks and achieves program success against plan and targets (utilization, budget, scope, timeline to completion)
  • Leverages TC capabilities to serve clients most profitability
  • Captures client success stories

Client Relationships

  • Sets and manages client expectations of work, staff, and overall experience while developing and nurturing lasting relationships with the client and key senior executives
  • Identifies and explores unidentified client needs across all levels
  • Develops meaningful and trusted professional relationships with clients
  • Enables effective communication among project and client teams

Leadership

  • Serves as a member of TC's leadership team acting as a trusted advisor to other leaders and to staff
  • Participates in developing the consulting skills and subject matter expertise of all staff
  • Develops staff by providing feedback, sharing best practices, instructing on methodologies, serving as a career counselor, and participating in annual review process
  • Translates and demonstrates TC's vision, objectives, and expectations
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and communication of company strategy and financial plans
  • Business Development
  • Develops and manages account strategies for each project/account and achieve target profitability
  • Expands existing client relationships by identifying need and securing additional or new services
  • Networks and generates new leads
  • Contributes to the development and management of TC brand, proposal win themes, and marketing materials

Requirements

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in relevant field preferred
  • 15+ years of management consulting experience
  • 10+ years managing consulting projects
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification a plus
  • Ability to synthesize and succinctly articulate complexity
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance required
  • Current government suitability clearance highly preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with large scale change initiatives
  • Strong competency in design thinking and systems modeling
  • Proficient in change strategy, organizational design, and leadership development
  • Strong group facilitation skills with the ability to leverage and infuse various engagement techniques and strategies
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Strength in performance management
  • Client/customer focus with a sense of urgency to deliver quality work
  • Ability to manage and collaborate well with a team, and to remain flexible in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity and an interest in business development/sales a plus
